Original Dunlops still on, although tread remains w/8k miles, new tires for my new NT. Presently 150/80-16, would like a wider 160 or 180. Prefer no modifications. Liking the Pirelli/Dragons, Avon/Venoms & Metzlers. Recommendations for coastal cruising in DelMarVa w/ventures into the NE.
Will feel much better when I have contact w/the road!
I switched to the Metzlers a couple years ago and haven't looked back. What a difference! I have close to 9k on the rear and it's still in good shape, probably looking at 10-12k before it needs changed. They also have a fitment chart here. I went with their 160/80-16 upsize and love it. Fills out the rear fender a bit better. The old front metz I had on there before the fat tire swap was pretty much done after 8k miles. But that's the 'Train! Goes through fronts faster than rears!
If ya take a spin through some of the tire threads, there is more info on other brands. I've heard the Avons are pretty good too, but less wear than the Metz. Good luck with the search!
You prefer the 150 vs the stock 120 for the front tire. Stability, braking, smother ride??
Did you lower for looks or comfort? Any noticeable change in suspension, etc.?

Forgot to mention, I went through the whole biggest tire I can get without mods thing. The 160 metzeler is the biggest you can fit back there on a stock 04'. fills out the fender really well! The Avon Venom 160 is too big to fit... and the Avon venom 150 is smaller than the metz. 160...
So if your tryin no mods, then a metz. 160 is the best/biggest you can do!

Pretty sure it was a 90 on the front with the 21" rim. Decided to do the 16" with a 150 because I like that look. It does feel more confident in the twisties though. Had to lower the rear because the new front setup was about an inch lower (smaller overall wheel diameter) which created a bit of front flop at slow speeds. Dropping the rear brought the rake/trail back to stock and restored the handling to what I was used to. The taller sidewall of the new front combo also soaks up bumps and potholes a bit better.
