Probably not what some of you want to hear, but I dont see the point in tuning these motors, OK they might go a little faster in a straight line, still wont corner well though, some of the comments about arm wrenching accelleration, make me smile as I suspect there are a lot of people here who have not owned or ridden a sports bike, I'm talking about bikes that will loft the front wheel in the lower gears from power alone, no clutch, no pulling of the bars, just sheer power.
I came over to Harley to slow down and enjoy the ride. just dont see the point in overtuning a motor that a chassis cant handle.
I don't think that 90hp and 100ft/lb is over tuning. If they came with a bit more power from the factory, I don't think I'd even be looking to upgrade.
The last bike I had with less than 70hp was probably the Vulcan 500 I learned on.
I agree Lawnmowerman. I rarely get over 70 and have way more power than I ever use. I bought mine to enjoy the ride also, not to race. I do understand some of you wanting to have a hot Harley though. You want a hot bike, it just has to be a Harley.
is that $1700 installed for the stg III or the kit it's self? B/c if not you are likely looking at another $1500 or more for it to be installed at the dealer and then you need to ask that question, do I really want to spend that much for how much gain you actually will get?
I agree with you double check how much it really is... I just did this upgrade myself and just for the kit it is over $1,400 plus I had to buy some other things as well (gaskets, etc...)
Make sure it is just the $1,700 and if it is just that much, GO FOR IT!!!

I grew up racing motorcross, owned 3 rockets, and have a 450+hp diesel truck. I, like others on this site enjoy "hot rodding" anything I own. If i still wanted to go 100+mph on back tire i would have got another R6 or R1. But instead i wanna make my 700lbs Harley that aint made for speed....GO FAST!!!

I already got the StgI w/SERT and that take almost $500 off the kit right there. dealer here said they do winter special 10% off(i think) and it brought it to around $1700 out the door, think $2800 for the stgIIII
It's their choice? Seriously? So if it was your sister or your daughter (or your wife) that was killed on the back of a bike going 125+ mph, she should be held accountable because she got on the back of the bike by her own "choice"? You would feel that the rider was not at all being irresponsible for going that fast with a passenger? In most states, those kinds of speeds qualify as reckless driving.
If it happened so someone in my family I sure wouldn't want you on the jury when the irresponsible rider (if he were to survive) is charged with reckless manslaughter.
have you took into consideration it was the PASSENGERS CHOICE! not only to get on, but to say speed up i wanna see how fast we can go because i want to see what hundred plus mph on a bike feels like? no different than in the boat, 3 outboards are overkill on a 32' boat, but i like to see what 145mph feels like, pretty regularly, so do my passengers. its OUR choice.
and i dont think anylace in here anyone has said anything about going that fast and hitting a family and killing them. except the one guy who assumed thats what would happen.

My 2001 Bullitt Mustang did the 1/4 mile in about 13.6-13.7, top end was over 155 mph.
My 2007 Night Train did the 1/4 mile in about 13.7-13.9, top end was about 95 mph and I am about 250lbs.
Both got some mods put on, but I was happy with how my Night Train did for a Cruiser bike. For a sport bike its slow, and I know that.
My Bullitt with mods would beat most sport bikes going from say 70 MPH to 165 mph. Bikes just did not have the grunt in the upper HP/TQ band.
IMHO a stock Honda Civic should not beat a Harley up to about 85-90.
A Honda civic with some mods, should beat a Harley. Its just part of life.
I have no need in my life now to do over 100 MPH on my Harley. But I do plan to add some cams and maybe do a 103/110 down the road when the engine gets old or I get tired of the power. That could be many years from now for me.
If I wanted a fast bike, I could have bought a CBR1000, ZX-14, Hyabusa, or Ducati for what my Harley cost. But I like my Harley much more and I have seen how well those fast bikes turned out for my friends as far as maint, resale, and safety...
