Yes, I have always liked this tank decal. I did a side by side comparison with the 883 and that was the best I could get it placed. It's hard to compare the two because our tanks are shaped much differently and have less surface area.
I've seen one person with that style tank decal and I loved it. It was larger, and to the other guy's point, placed correctly- closer to the front of the tank. Anyways, It fit the bike nicely, IMO.
I didn't buy this online - got it from the dealer's parts counter.
The part number is HD-50988.
I just tried finding it online ... no dice.
Made a stop into my local dealer yesterday and no luck on having them get that tool. Said something about only their licensed techs can order those specialty tools. They didn't even have a tool there at their shop. Thought it was BS myself. They said if I can't get something to turn it my best bet was to replace the whole thing...

I'm going to contact the vinyl place and get it a little big larger, then give it another go. Thanks for the feedback!

...and how is a dude supposed to "replace the whole thing" if he can't get the tools required to take it apart?????? ...fracking idiotic parts clerk
The more stories like this I hear online, the more I realize what a lucky SOB I am and how cool the parts guys at Bergen Harley-Davidson are.

Tell me about it. I had to keep myself from laughing at the guy. Coming from one of the top selling HD dealership I am kind of disappointed in how they handled it. I bet if I had purchased the bike from them they would of had a different attitude.
I will figure something out to try and get it to turn. I attempted to lightly tap with a chisel trying to get it to tighten or loosen. Didn't have any luck. That nut is tight for sure. The whole cylinder jiggles, you can see the wire connection on the back side moving when you jiggle it.
Thanks for the link. What is the length of the decal shown in your picture? The Vinylkc site says the length starts at 6". Just wondering if that's the one you have.

The length in the pic is 6". I ordered the 7" yesterday and will put it on when I get it then re-post pictures.
I agree with other poster that said it should be a little bigger, but I don't think it should be too much bigger.
Anyone know of any tricks to properly place a tank decal?
