I have a new 09 Nightster. I went out into the garage the other day and noticed a little bit if yellow sticky stuff just under the gas cap and has stained the tank a little.
Obvously it appeard to be fuel. What I am trying to understand is I close the fuel cap properly till it clicks and always wipe it off before hand so there is no fuel on my tank.
So my question is do I have faulty gas cap? Has anyone seen this before?
Yep, I do 3 clicks and sometimes it still spills over.
The craptastic Windex in a bucket you find at gas stops doesn't do a thing for it.
But the S100 you can find at the dealer works magic on gas stains on the tank.
I recently rode down 600miles south and back.
I had a nice lair of dead bugs on everything forward facing.
Plus a lot of gas spillage from filling up so often.
It took some light scrubbing, but the S100 got rid of it all.
I've never had an issue with fuel coming up through the gas cap. I didn't use the stock cap much, but I don't see much of a difference from the one I have now.
Go ahead and let it click 3-5 times, and if you still have an issue I would replace the cap.
I had the same issue with my 08, I just wipe the inside where the cap goes with a paper towel making sure to get in the groove around the edge, nothing since then!
