Never met anyone from Cali that said y'alls.. Unless you're trying too hard to have a Southern Accent.. Regardless....
Super simple. Anything OEM is truly decent ****. Follow the cable down toward the Carb and un-hook, re-hook. The tricky part might be up at the grips where it might take some tricks to get that gold little ball back around the throttle grip. If that makes any sense. Don't nuke it!
Thanks guys! I'm originally from Georgia, so saying y'all is like breathing. Didnt even realize I used it. 1984, thanks for the info for a quick fix. That would have saved me $70 for the tow!!!
Some of my research stays that I have to move the gas tank. Is it possible to do it without moving the tank?

It is possible, but, makes it a bit more difficult. Yank the tank - it's only a couple bolts, and then you don't have to worry about scratching your paint while you're installing the new cable.

as a fellow yall'er in california, ill say that weve got our roots in the south.
this is one of the easier processes and a fun one if youve not really been inside the bike before.
torx to get the right hand controls open, or the perfect sized-allen. take off your air cleaner, and the carb can come off, though you dont need to disconnect the fuel lines or anything, just wiggle it off of the intake manifold. make sure when you buy the cable that you buy the right one! the throttle cable does NOT have a little spring at either end, but the idle cable does! it lives on the end that connects to the carb. be sure you get the right cable. they cost about $22 at a harley dealership. connect at the handle and work your way down. make sure you follow the correct route through your forks, etc. if there arent any brackets that secure the cable to the bike fram use some loose zip ties.
i dont see the point in any performance grade versions. youll figure out the mechanics of twisting the throttle and finally getting the ferule to fit in the niche. make sure a ferule come with your cable too! while youre down there watch the carb pump fuel and take a minute to figure out the inner workings. im also not a fan of buying these used, i think the low price is worth buying new ones, but if youve got a good offer and theyll be free then go for it.
