yes first check is the brake light switches- if the switches make the brake light go on even for an instant- the CC will go off.
the rear brake switch was subject to a recall for some years ( 2009 for one)
....AND if the rt side hand controls are removed or loosened with out using a shim as detailed in the manual, the switch will break.

If it's a cable throttle bike the sensor on the cables are wore out. It is for when you roll the throttle forward to cut the cc off instead of hitting the brakes.
Throttle by wire should have something that does the same thing. However, I am not familiar with that.
