Last edited by crustye; Mar 14, 2018 at 12:15 PM.
tried mean city cycles mod ,that did not work
Ended up with a Corbin dual tour and am very happy
I can finally ride as much as I want to
The seat is hard and when you first set on it you think no way
But I can ride it as much as I want
If you order on opt for the softer foam,I did and am glad I did
Good luck
I'm no doctor and I know we all have diff medical conditions....but I work with several women who I have shared those stretches with and they all have had 100% success. I don't care what seat I have on my HD, in my office, at home....if my sciatic is trapped, I need to release it. Something causes that flare up ....find that thing and fix it.....then prevent it if you can.
Lastly....I know some take the steroid shots. I refuse to take them. They give them to us military retirees like candy. I'd take dry needling any day over that. Now that works!!!!!! I've had dry needling in my neck, back, etc. It helps to release the muscles around that nerve. Steroids shots, in my humble opinion, don't always work, may stop working after you end up needing many. Again ....just my opinion. Go minimum first....steroid shots last. I work at Special Operations Command and we have in house physical therapists who specialize in injuries.....physical therapy could be your friend! I have some disk issues too, but I beat those issues by staying extremely active......unlike some military retires.
I hate the tallboy, love my mustang........but can have sciatic pain on both, which isn't caused by the seat

However, I don't have constant sciatic pain, but I do occasionally, and it's EXTREMELY painful! Maybe a Mustang that also has a driver backrest might be the thing to get, since you'd be getting the best of both "support" worlds at the same time.
I searched for a seat for my last Ultra, and found a better than OEM, yet not perfect seat for me. I am now trying to decide what seat to get for my new Ultra...
One thing I learned in my research, everybody's butt is different.... and you have no way of knowing who's butt is equal to yours...
You can try a seat you find to be truly awful, and yet several people will swear it's the best seat out there.... Eventually, it will boil down to trial and error...... and you just hope the process doesn't cost too much.. Unfortunately, the only easy way to test a seat is an HD seat through a dealer with demo seats... I have had no luck finding a place that demos Saddleman, Mustang, or Russell.
Some of the things I have observed while researching reviews online...
While all seats have fans... a seat that's too soft, or too hard will have almost an equal amount of pro/con reviews, and with some very strong opinions at each extreme.... but seems that most want some support, without it being too harsh..
There seem to be a lot more bad reviews about any seat with gel pads.... absorb heat, absorb cold, get hard/stiff over time..
Some of the seats that have more pro than con reviews;
1) tend to be wider for more support.
2) tend to be more function over form (ie: comments like, "I loved XXXX but it looked ugly.")
3) tend to need a little bit of a break-in period.
4) tend to cost more than average.
From my personal experience:
I have liked an HD Sundowner seat, really liked an HD Hammock seat, but neither make me want to rush out an buy another one for my current bike.
I used Mean City Cycles to mod an OEM seat. They are very customer service oriented, good at what they do... but by the time I paid for the original shipping and for follow-up shipping/modifications, the seat cost what a premium seat would have cost... and it was better, but not perfect..
This time around I am contemplating:
Russell Day long seat... I have never read a complaint about them, other than the issue of it raising you up and affecting your ground reach, if you have a shorter inseam (like me). I don't like that they use your OEM set pan..
Mustang Summit Touring seat... seems to have a similar, wide profile like the Russell. It uses it's own, fiberglass seat pan, rivets instead of staples for the cover, and it comes with a deutsch connector to plug into HD wiring for heated version (which I am considering).
Sooner or later going to need to try one of them and hope it works....
Good luck with your search, and post up your findings for others to consider...
