just installed my progressive lowering springs but there is a terrible rattle and clunk when I either tap the front brakes or go over an abrupt bump. Rides great otherwise handles normal rollers or bumps fine with no noise. Tore everything back down today - the noise is definitely coming from the shock legs, both. I did not use any pvc spacer per the instructions to get the full 2 inch drop. But the spreings are definitely under pressure when I screw the top back in.
Anyone had had this happen or any ideas what to do to resolve this? Reason I lowered was due to addition of 21 inch front.
Forgot to mention these are drop-ins - noise happens at the bottom of the stroke and a bit on rebound - not bottoming out. Sounds like something is loose inside the spring housing.
For anyone who cares - the problem was the preload. Even though the instructions say you don’t need to add any spacers for a 2 inch drop - you need to put in some sort of spacer in there to keep the 2 springs from jiggling. Not sure of the exact minimum yet, but issue resolved.
Glad you have it figured out. I have this suspension also but only dropped mine an inch.
No problems here.
did you put any spacers in? i did some work on it today and found that if i used a stack of washers (i'm not putting anything pvc on/in my bike) .4 inches that all the rattling was completely resolved. now i'm changing the tube oil tomorrow and i'll be back in action.
even an inch, well, it's a cheap inch. i'll probably switch to monotubes, they have a 1 inch drop - but for now i just want to get out on the road.
btw ben - the more spacers you add the less drop you'll get out of this kit.
Ok - so here’s the final on this issue. I drained the fork oil, totally burned out and black. After a lot more thinking there’s no way the rattling was coming from the spring set. Dropped in the fresh fluid, shitload more trial and error - got the makeshift washer spacers out of the picture. Runs smooth as silk at the exact height I needed. Put 100 miles on it this afternoon to break in the tires and get the forks all warmed up.
Would recommend this springset - if you have any questions about the extensive troubleshooting I did lemme know.
