Do I have injector or ignition problem???
2007 Ultra Classic
V&H Fuel pack 3. Only upgrades are slip-on's and air filter.
After I experienced weird intermittent 1,000 rpm spikes for a couple days, I was heading back to work, and when I tried to take off, it died. Would keep dying under load. I would start and rev (neutral) PERFECT, but would die under load. I decided to replace everything in the fuel tank. Pump, filter, FPR & housing and check valve.
After new gas and new internals in fuel tank, it Started up and ran perfect for 3 days.
Yesterday, I heard a backfire / miss or something, then I noticed my RPM was about 1.4K. It is usually just under 1k. It missed out a few times. We decided to try and make it home and it stopped acting up. So we went on our normal 1hr ride. Periodically throughout the trip, I would pull in on the clutch, and it would be around 1.4k, and would sometimes miss/sputter/backfire. But the next mile it would be perfect. I haven't been on it today. But I did notice that it did miss/backfire when we hit a bump once yesterday. This makes me think it is probably more of an ignition issue. Plug, wire??? But only thing that would make me think it isn't is the intermittent higher idle. I got on it a couple times and it runs great. so I'm pretty sure it isn't a engine problem.
If I replace injectors, I saw J&P has them for $34.99, and then the price doubles. I'm not looking to modify anymore. Just didn't know if I "NEED" to go with higher $$ injectors. Don't know much about them. Saw they have higher flows (g/s), but don't think I need that. both local shops are 2+ weeks out. So I need to figure this out.
Anyone ever experience this?
Thanks in advance,
Brad

I did go to the maintenance tab on the Fuel Pack 3. It showed 2 errors. But not sure if they are related, or when they happened. It didn't have any description.
P0373
and
U1064
Probably also unrelated, but I do have some kind of electrical issue revolving my cruise control. I can turn it on at the dash switch, however when I try to "set" the cruise at the handlebar, I blow a fuse and lose my running/turning/brake lights. Maybe I have something grounding out that is causing more problems? And my right front running light doesn't come on until I start the bike. Kind of strange.

Did you try pulling any codes from the bikes diagnostics? Did you check fuel pressure with a gauge? You can do a test with a multi meter to see if you have something grounding out...did you do that? Check for intake leaks? Just a few things i can think of...good luck

Clear the codes, take it for a short run and see if they come back.
P0373 is Crank Position Sensor Intermittent
U1064 is Loss of TSM/TSSM Serial Data to ECM (which could be thrown because of the first)
I would start by pulling the CKP sensor and see if there is any crud on it, and checking the connection there.

Sounds like the Crank position sensor is dying, CKP, this sensor reads the notches on the fly and triggers the ECM when to fire the plugs. I would have a CKP sensor on the replace list.
Thanks for the info. I was told to replace the engine temperature sensor. I ordered it, but will also do the CKP as well
