what is the difference between the motorcycle specific kits and say an oil relocation kit for a car? They look very similar minus the custom brackets and what not.

Wow you joined in 2015 and this is your first post? Did you happen to do an introduction in the new members section? Although you aren't really a new member 🤔

Ummm... same concept, but in a different application...

yes meaning could one use one of those instead? I could make my own bracket and some AN fittings. Is there a difference internally on the car kits maybe ? I think most of those come with 10AN fittings is that going to cause a problem if you use a reducer to 6AN?
I know you already have the downtube relo...but, for your Street Glide, to allow you to run whatever crash bars you want, the under the passenger foot rest relo would serve you better. Here's one picture below, and more pictures and description HERE.
I actually found a set of crash bars I like from Amazon. Got them installed and there is plenty of room now.

I haven't seen the kits you are looking at, but I suspect you'd probably need to fabricate the piece that attaches to the HD oil filter bracket, and maybe even other parts & pieces.....but I don't know for sure...
The beauty of the DK Customs kit is that they took care of getting the correct pieces altogether for you, that are guaranteed to work with your bike.... No custom fabrication needed on your part...
However, people do their own custom mods all the time... Have at it...
I bought the $300 DK Stock-Bikes-Suck beer coozie and they threw in a clean and cool remote oil filter kit for free!!! Install took about 45 minutes including changing the erral. Nice little set up.

You can use the automotive stuff same thing.
I use the stuff from improved racing.
They come with any size AN fittings you want
Just make sure you get the right oil filter adapter nut.

While installing this oil filter relocation kit I had to remove my chopped crash bars in order for it to work
I want to order a different set of crash bars, but want something that looks good and will not interfere with the oil filter.
I don't want the standard Harley crash bars, and was hoping for some suggestions. It's for a 23 street glide.
The downtube kit doesn't work with the chopped engine guard on a Street Glide?
