Are there good aftermarket stators the people would recommend without going with the expensive Harley version?

I did notice this morning where the wire chafing took place on the bike. The stator wire rubbed right against the motor mount over time. In the pic I zoomed in on the area. You can see the tiny rust spot. I would think it would've been shorting.

I just went to dealer and asked. I am not sure if it will show up on parts diagram because it is not original. But you could look at online one it might,

Update: I put rtv silicone on the stator cord and wrapped in electrical tape and did a short ride. The battery was at 12.5 volts with the key off, idling it was up to 14.3, and it ran fine for about a 15 mile ride with no lights coming on as well. Battery voltage this morning with the key off was 13.1. Hoping to do a longer ride later this week.

With strands broken, I might test ride it to see that, that is you problem. But I would not keep riding it unless just staying close to home.

But all you are doing is insulating it, really isn't fixing anything. You are just keeping it clean or from get worse. It won't help you conduct. You may or may not have enough strands to meet capacity.. Probably, maybe, I dunno.

Pretty much sums it up right there. It doesn't look like you have enough exposed wire left coming out of the connector to do a proper patch job. With those strands missing (cut) you DO NOT have the full current capacity of that stator available. If the battery is kept charged it might be OK for a while, but once a heavy (but factory supported) load is placed on those wires they will get hot because of the reduced strand count. I can't say exactly what that current rating is, but you are poking the bear with that setup if you use it long term.

I agree 100% Rounders. Just trying to verify what the issue is, and am hoping that was it.

Agreed Hoyt. Calling a dealer not to far from me just to see if by any luck they offer a pigtail. If not, I'll have to do the stator change out. Not the end of the world...
