Has anybody put the Heritage bars up against the 2" sweepers? I have a 00' Heritage and love the ride and now I bought an 05 RG and hate the stock bars. I was wondering which one would give me the best reach. I am 5'10" with 29" inseam. so its short legs and long body. which makes riding the RG feel like I'm way up in the sky compared to my heritage.
I tried the Dyna Wide Glide bars, don't bother, they look and feel like crap. The Roland Sands "Glider" bar didn't offer any more rise or pullback. The Paul Yaffe bars were a 4-6 week wait.
So I decided on Carlini's Chino Apes. They have a 12 inch rise and are not quite 1" narrower than stock bars.
Believe it or not, we did not have to change one cable or splice any wires. There is enough wiring to play with if you remove the fairing and remove some of the slack there. Only thing we had to do was re-route the clutch cable.
Those bars look sweet,I have searched thread after thread looking for the right bars and those look like they could be it. How tall are you Cool Daddy?
I'm almost done installing KW +2 Sweepers on my '09 RG. thanks for the helpful info from this thread and others.
For those of you who rerouted the stock clutch cable what clamp did you use to secure the cable to the fork? I'm looking for something nice. I'd appreciate a part number on what you've used.
I installed the "Heritage" style bars from H-D on my 08 RG and have been very happy with them. Liked the fact that I could use the stock cables, and have been told that with the ABS you need to run the stock length brake cable, is this true or false. Really like the looks of the Khrome Werks bars and wouild like to try them if I can use the stock brake cable. Just when you thought you were close to being done.....of course we all know....that never happens....
Just an FYI, The heritage Style bars, s6902-08 will fit touring bikes with ABS despite what the catalogue says! I searched for a month for someone to tell me why they would not or someone who had used them on an 08 RG w/ABS. Finally just bougt a set and gave em a go. They fit fine with no cable or line changes whatever. Only parts I used were the bars and a couple of new zip ties.
