Default Chrome Front End Package 09 ULtra ABS

Has anyone done the install themselves? How hard was it? Getting a 09 Black Ultra and dont like the aluminium stock fron end but dont want to pay $1140 to buy it and have it installed, the package is list at $446 cheaper at CHD or Zannotis. Thanks for any guidance.

Jerry,

I'm doing my own exchange as outlined here https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touring-models/265486-my-diy-chrome-frontend-w-pics.html

Easy as pie. I'll go back with the forks on Saturday, had to work and wait on a part or else I could have finished the whole thing easily in one afternoon.

Not sure how hard it is to install, several guys on here have talked about doing it themselves. The one thing to consider about any parts you put on the bike before you take delivery that they install is covered under the factory Warranty or Extended Warranty if you purchase one. I had mine done by the dealer along with the lowering kit, so if I have any issues I am covered. I only had them install parts I wanted covered longterm, the rest I did myself and bought the parts off ebay and discount places.

UK, thanks again for the good advice, like your workspace ya have there, lots of room. How long is the job taking ya?

Buzzsaw, I considered that but if I do the install myself I can but another 1 1/2 kits to replace the ones that I installed without the warranty. Its ionly two years, my current 07 has them and cant see much that can go wrong with the chrome. The lowering kit is a different story though, I wont be doing that. Thanks.

I really took my time and masked off my paint with blue painters tape in conjunction with my leather service covers and ever-so-slowly removed my front wheel, fender, and brake calipers paying close attention to detail. I don't like scratches and I REALLY take my time around my scoot with anything I do so that is where my time was spent.

I could have finished the job easily in one afternoon but I had to wait on a part. I'd say start to finish, 4-5 hrs for the first time. Shorter time after having done it.

Get the manual and you're set. It really is an easy task and no way would I pay the 4-5 hour shop fee for a dealer to do this. It's really that easy. I bought the chrome forks from the HD dealership so if anything happens to the chrome...ie...quality or integrity........my shop would warranty it out anyways.

Disclaimer: I'm not knocking anybody that has paid the dealership to do this work, I'm merely stating the I wouldn't pay the man. I like doing things like this.

They want HOW much to install it? Holy crap, what a gouging. No wonder your looking to do it yourself. I think they only charged me about $175-200 to put mine on.

Thats all I have been thinking about Phil, new motor = blank canvas, Dealer offering SE 103 installed for $1k, told them I want to plan this one a little better than current one, not that I am unhappy just want to do a whole package with parts that "compliment one another". One of the mechanical components that has me perplexed is the new exhaust 2-1-2, what will the aftermarket come up with? Will they be better than the HD set up?Is a 2-1-2 better than the 07 stock? I loved the Fatcats so this is my standard, has to be better than the Fatcat and most likely will come from D&D. Was just looking at the D&D Boss slip ons for the time being til they come up with a new Fatcat for the 09.
