Afetr reading many posts I decided to order the Evo Industries 30T sproket with the new chain. I will have it here Thursday but got the instructions emailed to me for review.
It say that the cruise will not work on some 08's.
1. Has anyone had this problem on an 08 replacing the front gear with the 30T on an 08??
Second it shows that if the chain hits the compensator housing (not sure this is what it's called) that you must remove some of the material from it.
2. Has this happened to anyone? If so, how did you remove the metal?
Thanks for any advice. I am trying to plan ahead. I must have the cruise so if I lose that I will take it back off.
I had Frank@ DragosBikeworks install mine.I have a '07 EG, I know for a fact he had to do some machine work on mine due to clearance issues. When its all said and done my bike feels like a totally different bike.Any questions feel free to call him 1-815-765-1790.
There maybe some interferance with the cup that holds the stock comp spring pack. Most likely you could zip cut about 1/4" off and it would still function for the stock application , should you go back. Take the springs out and put them on the self. Once you have it apart, you will see what's going on and what to do. Not earth shattering, but 6th gear light won't work due to rpm and mph being out of phase with the ecm.

I have it on my 07 SG, and absolutely lost cruise and light as well. I dont see how you can keep it, after all your reving at alot higher rpm...........I like mine though huge improvement..........as for cruise you still have the 6 gear just reving alot higher ..........
Pulls very good along with motor upgrade its a wonderfull thing................
Thanks for all the answers. Looks like I will have to wait and see if the cruise works. If not it's a deal breaker and I'll put her back.
My main interest is being to start off smoother. With the bike loaded and my wife on the back it's hard to start off without all the clattering. I hope it corrects that.
What did you guys use to hold the gears in place to tighten and untighten them. I saw the tool in the service manual but seems like I read it was too short once you put the smaller gear in. I saw one post where someone made their own. What is the best choice on this?
I just put the Evo 30t on my 08 Ultra last weekend. I didn't have to machine any off the comp. spring housing, although it does sound like the springs rattle a little now. I did not loose my cruise, but did the 6th gear light. 1st gear is about like 1st on the 5sp now, and 6th about like 5th on the 5sp. I've only got about 200mi on it since the change, but love it. I shouldn't have any complaint about pulling my tent camper like I did before the change. If I used a 7 1/4X1/4X1 1/2 bar to put between sprockets.
IF you want to fix the 6th gear light and/or cruise control TTS Mastertune will do it for you. We have released the fix for changing primary gears for the 2005 and newer HD bikes in our product. It allows you to adjust for primary ratio's from 1.250 to 1.750 This will allow you to tune your bike as well as solve the light and cruise issues.
