I added some LED accent lights, plugged in to the Maxi-fuse connector. Now the security system idiot light glows all the time. The lights are not designed to flash, so I'm wondering if i still need a load equalizer to make the security system happy? Would it make a difference if I plugged the accent lights into another connector?
I went to ride last night, and the security light functioned normally. I rode through some heavy rains last week, and I wonder if some water might have gotten into the wiring. I know the LEDs came with a harness that lowers the 12 volts down to around 1 volt, but I don't understand why a load equalizer would make a difference, since there are no flashers in the circuit. I guess for now, I will let sleeping dogs lie. There is not much point in trying to troubleshoot a problem that I can't replicate. Thanks for the advice.

You don't need a load equalizer just to make LEDS light, it's sole purpose is to provide sufficient load to operate a load-based flasher relay for a blinking operation. If use a timer-based non-loading flasher circuit is used you don't even need an equalizer for blinkers. If the problem occurs again just hook the LED leads to another source like the tailight lo-beam circuit and see what happens.
i had same issue. word of advice - dont get the kuryakan load eq. it sometimes freaks out and then my flashers dont work. need to toggle IGN Off/On and then its ok.
have the taillight flasher option selected and needed to get another equlizer for the alarm light on dash to turn off when riding, now sometimes if alarm rings, the flashers dont always flash, and another thing, the equlizer gets hot if u hold brake light and select turn signal... heard they dont last long either due to heat... cant wait till it breaks so i can get the Badlander one.
Everyone (except Glen W) should note that these were just accent lights and were not in any way connected to the turn signal/security circuit. That would be the only time that a load equalizer would be needed.
Like I said before, the security system idiot light appears to be functioning normally now. I'm not sure when the light started, but I did not notice it until the day after I had ridden through several hours of heavy rain. I don't understand why a load equalizer would make a difference, since I am not using any flashers on the circuit. I suspect the idiot light issue is actually related to the rain, rather than the LED's. Anybody had any issues with the security system and rain?
