I bought a smart security system today. The parts guys tell me it's an easy install. But after reading treads here I am not so sure. I have a service manual but not electrical. They said with the kit, the fob and module are already married. So my question is; is there more to the install then just changing the module and installing antenna? Do I need the electrical manual? Has anyone installed the system? Thanks for any help with this.
I plugged it in routed the antenna wire and followed the button sequence in the instructions to set it up. You may want to put some silicone on the tabs on the bike that hold it in. I didn't need to on mine but there have been posts of people having problems getting it in.
Plug it in, run the antenna as described. Its an easy install on the 08 SG, its located in an easy to access place, for both you and unfortunately for the thief, anyway I would suggest also securing it in with a tie wrap to at least slow the thief down. When installing you will have to work at getting the Siren into place, some fellows have even suggested putting a bit of silicon or something slippery to aid in the install, being careful not to break the tab. This is definitely an easy job that the end user can do themselves.
Look for the section for Touring Bike install (Page 3 of 7) It says remove the right saddle bag and cover, on my bike its the left side of the bike. That is probably it, you are setup. If you bought the remote pager system then you need to follow the instruction to set that up. (I have the pager as well as the siren and it works great!!)
