I am an amateur mechanic that has kept my bike running for 84,000 miles . I figured it was time for new tension-er shoes so i pulled the cover and my inner shoe was trashed . My outer shoe was good . I put a new se plate & pump on it with my manual beside me ,but somewhere i screwed up. I know that i put my 2 rear push rods in the wrong place i dont know how but i mis-marked them. I figured this when I ran a compression test and got 150 on the front and zero on the back. I pulled the rockers checked compression on back was 150, switched the push rods stayed at 150. put it back together and it started right up but ran rough the oil lights went off and stayed off at over 900 rpm. It doesn't idle and the carburetor is spitting and it wont smooth out . Did I screw up something ? it seems if valves were bent I would not get 150 compression. I used the oil pump alignment screws
Sorry this is so long , Thanks Scott
I'd start by doing the simple things first. Pull the plugs, check to see if they fouled out, make sure you're getting spark, while the plugs are out, recheck compression. If the carb settings weren't changed, there should be no problem there. Any other unusual noises? With plugs out and free cranking, does oil light go out?
I tried removing the plugs and turning it over to see if the oil pressure light went off. The one on the dash lights (oil can) never went out the red light on the tach did but for only about 20 seconds and it came back on. Thanks again.
Did you check your timing dots on your cam? One tooth will mess things up good. Not a lot to go wrong down there as long as everything gets lined up properly.
O'rings in place and seated (not pinched) on the RH engine case (oil prob)?
Timing marks aligned on the cams?
Timing marks aligned on the gears whn viewed from the outside?
You might have to pull the cam plate out again. Its a good idea to take pics as you put everything back together so you can refer to your pics.
Thanks Seminole Bagger, Mongomark and Kbore. I am going to dig back into the cam case asap. I found out that there is a hole I have to plug on the back of the new cam plate my 99 did not use it so it just sprays oil and loses pressure. I will double check my alignment marks while in there. I will keep you posted. Good riding to you all !

That was going to be my suggestion!
I had same prob with my '99, although without the carb prob 'cause I'm not carb'd...

Good for you, I'm glad you found something. Post some pictures of the hole you plug if you can- thats what our forum is all about. Keep us posted....
