Trey... good to know that your solution and mine was the same. It sure would have been nice if HD would have added a simple blurb into their included instructions about this instead of us having to figure it out the hard way. They go as far as mention the bluetooth and NIM circuits but nothing about the amp. This is a terribly careless oversight, especially in light of the fact that they are including these things on their current CVO bikes. At least the readers of these two forums will know what to do. In the end, the interface works great, sound is great and the installation is clean. It's nice to see the track info, playlists, artists, etc... and even better to control the ipod through the hand controls. I have no regrets on this addition.

On the other hand... the HD NIM unit is a joke. For navigation I use an iphone with Navigon which gives me weather, traffic, etc... I even have access to email and can see who is calling when I'm on the road. The graphics are fantastic, the best I've seen in a nav system. I made a handlebar mount by combining and modifying a few different items. It mounts low on my left handlebar and sits just left of the stereo head unit. To protect it from the weather the iphone is in an Otterbox case and is powered from the cig. lighter. This is, IMHO, the nicest, cleanest option out there so far. I really don't care for the size and bulk of anything else that's out there at this point, especially the Garmin models and how they are being mounted. I'll post some pics later tonight.

Ferromet you are 100% right they totally forgot about the amp. They said that an amend will be added to the I sheet to include the changes. I can't wait to see the iPhone mount that you have, is it the iPhone 3 or 4?. Also did you get the extention to put the iPod in the saddle bag or is it the lowers?

I ran the wire out of the bottom of the fairing, down to the crash bar and over and into the left lower with lots of wire to spare. Added a piece of velcro to the back of the ipod and it is attached to the back of the lower upside down as high up as I could get it (the ipod plug comes down from the top) so that any water intrusions will not reach the plugs and thus, have no effect. Had to drill a decent hole to the "in between" part of the lower against the crash bar but it can't be seen and I sealed it all back up with silicone. You wouldn't even know any of it was there.

As far as the iphone setup, you can do it with either the iPhone 3 or 4. Before the 4 came out I was using an iphone 3 with an otterbox case which worked great too. I now have the iPhone 4 and otterbox has their new case out. Ballistic makes a nice case too will protect the phone but I like the looks of the otterbox a little better (I have both). The good news is that I didn't even have to change the mount. I just had to bend the fingers a bit to accomodate the new phone in it's case. It's a rock solid setup and a better Nav system that's in any of my automobiles. Like I said, I'll post several pics to this thread tonight so you can see exactly how I did it as well as how it looks on the bike. Unfortunately this is one of the few days of late that I actually drove a car to work. Stay tuned.

Okay, here's how I have my iphone set up for Navigation...

I use the Navigon software which is the best that's out there... I've tried them all.

Your right for the iPhone Navigon is really good. I just have a problem hanging my iphone on a handle bar.

And I ride a lot more without a GPS for commuting. Than I do needing it so the mount without a GPS in it has to blend in and not be annoying.

Is there anyone willing to share the installation instructions for the interface module? I'm considering getting one but I want to understand exactly where it mounts, etc. I'm running the Zumo 665 with the XM antenna mounted on top of the CB radio module. I would like to make sure I have room for this. Thanks for the help.

I just installed mine last week. I'm using the hawg wired amp which sits on top of the radio. Tried putting the module on top of the amp but the fairing would not close, remembered I had a dummy bracket next to CB unit(by the way the module is the same size as the CB). Removed the dummy bracket installed module next to CB. As for the instructions it is really simple, you follow the instructions for the plugs if you get confused on the 6 or 8 pin connector(don't remember which it was look in your manual for the right wire colors. I was able to get it right off because it seems there is only one plug in the area that size. The only problem was inserting the wires in the cavity(I had to pm Ferroment on the installation of the pins), it is not easy inserting the the wires in an area that has 35 wires. I was using neeedle nose pliers to push the wires which bent every time. He suggested I use a small screwdriver that worked. Once the fairing if off install is just a matter of minutes to get it working. If you need help feel free to ask or pm. I mounted mine in the lower left fairing, next purchase is locking doors to keep it safe.
