Default D & D Fatcat vs. True Dual

I've been running True Duals for years and decided to try a 2 into 1 system, I originally was going to go with the Bassani Road Rage but when I called to order it Dr. V-Twin talked me into the D & D. I want to first THANK the Dr. who treated me great and gave excellent service, next I will tell you about my bike, it is a 2001 FLHTCI TC88 which has had motor work done by Carl's Speed Shop, it has cam's, the throttle body is bored, push rod's, it's bored to 95 ci with 10:4 pistons, it's ported and polished , has the Power Commander III etc., I was running Bub 1 3/4" true duals with Bassani FLH517 slip on mufflers, it was turning 103hp and 102 trq, I put on the D & D Fatcat 2 into 1 with the ghost pipe and had Cycle Rama in Pinellas Park dyno tune it to the new pipes, results are I gained 10hp and 3 trq. , with this said the torque hits at entirely different rpm's, at 2000 rpm td's 84 trq/ d&d 77trq, 2500 rpm td's 79 trq/ d&d 97 trq , 2700 rpm td's 84 trq/ d&d 105 (the d&d level off here until 6300 rpm), 3000 rpm td's 84trq , 3400 rpm td's 89 trq, 4000 rpm td's 99 trq , 4400 rpm td's 102(the td's then level off til 6300 rpm) The weird thing is looking at where the power hits you think you would feel a huge difference but I guess because I'm an aggressive rider on the throttle a lot by the seat of my pants I really do not feel much of a difference other than the power with the D & D is smoother, Final Thoughts : looks - although I've always liked the looks of a true dual system the D & D have a nice look and am equally happy with either, Power: the D & D produce more power and if I was going from stock I would definitely look into a 2 into 1 over a true dual however because I already had a system I do not feel the $1000 I spent was worth the gain so if you already have a system you like think hard, Sound: D & D is much more quiet than my true dual, had I known it was this quiet I probably would have tried the Thunder Header, the tone sounds good though but to quiet for me, final thoughts D & D instructions or lack of suck so if you are a good wrench you will be fine anyway if not I'd get them installed

Your D&D will get louder over time, trust me. I agree the lack of instructions sucked. Should be simple, but they throw in some spacers and expect you to guess where to put them, etc.

Got to agree with Dawg, with miles comes increase in volume. Got standard baffle on mine and its plenty loud according to area PD.

Get the D&D performance baffle. I guarantee the TDs won't even be in the same league of loudness, if that's what you're looking for.

hopefully it will get louder, also we go to North Carolina regularly , I believe that is where I will see the benefit of the torque coming on sooner when I'm in the twisties at lower rpm's , in Florida being flat and straight my rpm's are normally up anyway, I like the pipes and again if you have stock and are buying for the first time I would definately look into a 2 into 1 system but if you have $1000 already in a true dual system I don't know the gain is worth spending another $1000 + $300 to get it tuned but time will tell

My D&D came with the quiet baffle which i think is way too quiet. I removed the baffle and took off the fiberglass wrapping and now it sounds pretty good.
