I ain't gonna read this whole dang thread tonight, but I just want to say....I AGREE! (but I have to say, I haven't rode one with the apes, so I ain't gonna say NEVER!)
Warning: I'm reviving an old thread.
I haven't finished this thread yet. I'm on page 13 of 16. I had to stop b4 finishing to comment on this post. Since I know that Mike has decided to be a dumbass and put Apes on his bagger since making this post. To his credit, he did leave himself open to the possibility.
I've been riding for nearly 40 years so believe me when i tell you i could care less what other people think about how my bike looks. As far as comfort, i've found that my bars need to be right at shoulder height for me to be comfortable on long rides. This equates to about a 12 in ape, which is what i have on both of my bikes. As far as apes on baggers, you have to be comfortable, so screw anyone that doesn't like my Street Glide apes.
I have been saving up to be dumb. I will go with 16 apes still have not decided on the brand. I really like the look myself seem the comfort is an added bonus. The wheel barrel filling my stock bars gave had to go. I am using haritage bars in the mean time till I get the ape.

I feel the same. My comfort level has increased 100% going to the 16" apes on my SG. The stock bars are for riders up to 5'6" or so. At 6'2" I like to stretch out and not torture my lower back with the geezer bars...LOL
I got 16's on mine and I'm a short(ish) turd at about 5'8 or so. I had to get used to em but I love em. Even went on out of state trips with em. No problemos.
