I just did this and its the best ride so far. 68 bucks with air lines and shocks. No fancy bushing just one homemade sleeve for lower bolt and narrow lower mount with saw. Now no clearance problems with mufflers at all. Narrower than axle it self. Set at 55 lbs solo and 70 2 up. My back thanks me and so did the wife. She had no idea i did it. Going to do compressor now and gauge . 1000 miles and perfect for me. Aired it all the way down and rode it 10 miles to my shop..ruff but no problems other than my damn legs were way to long riding a mini bike LOL Opps i did run a 1/2 inch drill trough upper sleeve....didnt change it just opened up to 1/2. I dont like urethane bushing ..to stiff for me and i am too cheap to buy them. LOL

Now I have a buddy with a softtail wanting to do something similar.

Does anyone know of "Monroe" equivalent to go onto a softtail?

So after reading a good chunk of this but not all of it I am wondering if I can just buy the air shocks and mount them up using either stock air lines already on my bike or use the lines that come with the shocks and use my air compressor in my garage to air them up when needed. Do you think my Harley air pump for my stock shocks would work too. That way I would have a gauge too. A concern would be some guys said on here the shocks lose air over 24 hours and getting out the air compressor before every ride would get old either way I'm very interested in this! Seems almost too good to be true that for around $65 you get air shocks that ride better then $500 shocks and better then the $1100 "real kits" that's awesome. I love finding the loop holes!!

You can use the monroes with the existing air lines. You will have to drill out the plastic fittings that come with the monroes so that the stock lines will fit. You should also double up the rubber orings inside this plastic fitting when connecting to the shock. I don't know how much air you will lose with this setup. I have the whole system and I lose about 20 psi overnight. I did keep my stock lines installed and taped the modified fittings to each air line in case of a failure in my system. I could then just swap the air lines and use my air pump until I get home.

This setup is way better than stock.

I have done a couple using the stock air lines and they lost no air at all. I have the full system and it MIGHT lose 5# a week if I left it air up which I typically never to. A 20# overnight leak is a major leak and should be easy to find

I think I know where it is leaking. My air gauge mount had to be modified so I could I use the air connection to the gauge to tighten down the clamp. It probably needs to be tighter but I think it will break if I go anymore. When I first put this gauge in, I would lose all pressure in 1 hour. I am willing to deal with the air loss although it is probably less than the 20 psi, more like 5-10 psi over a 12 hour period. Here is where I mounted the air gauge.

Please remember Gabriel makes shocks that work also. The difference is the air bag is internal instead of being out in the open..
