Since adding my 26 wheel the bike now drops too low and fender now rests on the tire. Is there anyway to prevent the air ride from dropping this low? Would hate to be riding and lose air and contact the fender.
Hey guys. Just found my 3rd set of Gabriels were leaking...sort of. First set I had a leak from the shock itself, as in oil leaking out from where the shock overlaps where it goes up and down. Second set (replaced for free) I noticed when I pulled them out of the box, that there was oil coming out of the air line attachment. I know a little is normal, but then I looked in the box and there was a lot of saturation on the cardboard box. I took the shocks back and had them order me a replacement. Third set I got them on and everything seemed to be fine for a while. After about 3 weeks I noticed I was bottoming out (or rather the shocks seemed to be) at almost any setting. I was checking the air line and disconnected the air at one of the T fittings and there was a good amount of oil in the air line. I assume the loss of oil contributed to the lack of dampening. Took it back and got my money returned. Thinking about trying the Monore's, but at this point the hassle is of getting this to work has been painful. Maybe I got a bad string of luck because I know a ton of you on here have had great success running the Gabriels. Maybe I'll try the Monroes, or see if I can purchase an air shock that's made for motorcycles.
i thought of going this route and have 2 safety concerns, 1 when its lowered or even raised wont it affect the belt tension? loose when dropped tight when raised full? and secondly whats in place for a safety valve? like if a tire or stick ripped out a line.
Most of them can run with it down all the way. On mine since I am running a 140-90-16, it depends on the manufacture. My Dunlop is taller than the Metzler & the Kenda. I am thinking that the Metzler was the shortest that I have run in that same size tire (& it cleared). I have been tempted to see if I could put a stop on the swing arm to keep it from lowering onto the tire, but have not done it yet. I get a new tire so I have been thinking about going to a 150-80-16, but being a 1999 it might be too wide. Right now I am trying to locate a 150-80-16 tire that is worn out to see if it will fit, if it does there should be no problem with it rubbing when it is aired down all the way.
very interesting info.....may have missed this...but is everyone using the stock kick-stand...are there issues to consider when slammin' ....like maybe being on complete level before slammin' ....just want to know
Hey guys,
well I`m not quite sure if this info is intersting for you but since I have received my Monroes I was still waiting for the needed bushings. To have everything set up I decided to take out the bushings that comes with the monroe shock.
After having a couple of beers I had an idea. I still had some old bushings from my old triple clamp where also have been mounted some bushings....I thought, well let`s give it a try...BBAAMMMM they fit perfectly!!! The only mod that I had todo was cutting a bit of from the rubber bushing because there kind of 4-5 mm to long.
The best part of it, that these ones are much cheaper than the energy suspensions 9.9105G at least her in europe.
I just thought, why not sharing this info with you.
Trying to get all the parts together to get the Monroes installed. But I can't find any adapters, like a 90 degree elbow that fits on the shocks to connect to a 1/4" hose (push to connect). I just don't like that plastic caps the shocks came with.
Any part numbers, links or so on?
Sorry, been through so many pages and threads, there is no more booze to get me going...

hey Frank. Put 2 o rings on the lines instead of 1 per connection and firgetaboutit. Lol. The 90degree adapters are a PINTA AND don't fit well. Plus more places to leak. Almost 18,000 miles on mine and never a problem. They hold air for weeks maybe longer but I don't ever let it stand still much. Lol Ride is very good also
