Dawg has helped me out so much since I bought my first Harley and joined this forum. When I had a question about something to do with my bike he answered it, usually the same day. Having said all that and trusting him to give me the right answer when it come to my new Harley, than it only makes sense to me if he thinks paying is a good idea. Than thats good enough for me too.
I hope it stays the way it is - membership levels or not. After a bit of research I discovered another forum I belong to is owned by IB. Then I visited it for the first time in a bit only to discover that there are now restricted sections (such as DIY mechanics), special discounts only available to paid members etc. etc. Fingers crossed for HD Forums. Always been my favorite site.
this is exactly where I see this forum going... maybe not now... but slowly it will change... (I would have said evolve, but I don't see this type of change as a "evolution"...)
"new" forum features will only be available to paid members...
all of the info you get now will then be in the "members only" sections......
it's all about money folks!
please prove me wrong..... PLEASE!
I'll be saving this post................. I hope I don't have to say "I told you so" and copy and paste it on here in a year..

I wish that you will be proven wrong, but I doubt it. Like You said it's all about $$$$$$$.
The same thing happened to another site I used to frequent. Although, they don't 'charge fee's' yet. It became so big and the sponsors became more and more involved in the control of content. I'm speaking of Timezone which became so valuable it was sold by its original developers for big big $$$. HDF has such a large following that once the owners have enough paying customers and the sponsors are paying through the nose, it will be sold for, ya you guessed it...big big $$$ Another drawback will be the control of what's posted and the rules will be strengthened regarding language and other content. I guess I can't begrudge folks for trying to make a buck but I'm just getting sick and tired of that buck coming out of my pocket.

funny how there is no reassurance from the forum mods that what I posted above won't be happening either......

Damm, I hate it when i'm right.
C'mon Deuce,
The Mods don't work for IB, and of course, IB will tell them anything.
But in the end, it's all IB's decisions.
They're a "for profit" company publicly traded in the stock market.
It's all about making shareholders happy, now.
Don't rag on the Mods, they're only passing on what's being told to them.
True BP very true, hope none of the mods take my comments as ragging on them, its not the case at all.

just commenting on how my earlier posts were met with "reassurance" by the people that run this forum that it would stay the same, and now..... we hear crickets...
we all know what this place is going to turn into in the next year..... I like it here, I just hope I don't have to find another forum to visit...
I "may" start looking now, just to see what's out there...

I'm tired of hearing 'it's up to the stockholders' To think this site will remain exactly the same is naive. I just hope it doesn't become so sanitized as others I've seen that it's no fun anymore.
