Update on the fix. The heim joints would not work on the standard shift rod. I even got another standard shift rod and it did not work as well. I paid 11.00 each for the heim joints at grainger. I think I am going to take them back and just order a shifter linkage from Landmark or Kuryakyn.
did you get the right thread for the heim joints? they should be 5/16 x 24 rh (right handed) thread. if this is what you got, there's no reason for it not to work. i even checked on the 2014 oem fiche and the shifter rod is the same one that's been in use since 1999.
I think I found the problem. After looking at the part spec's on the grainger website it turns out these are left hand threaded..... WOW, I can't believe I missed that.

Easy fix man. It's a good thing that's all it was.
skratch called it on his last post .
Mine are completed and was an easy mod to do. Much firmer shift (feels like). As well a piece of mind that the linkage will not fall off in the middle of nowhere. Which in Idaho , middle of nowhere is easy to do here. Took about 10 minutes to do. Did not have to do any adjusting, or moving the teeth on the splines. Perfect size HEIM joints worked great. Purchased my set through: http://www.ebay.com/itm/391165355207...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Trusted seller, 100% feedback, nice product.
I see this kit comes with two 1 1/4" bolts, but the OP used one 3/4" and one 1". What have other folks used.
Thinking on finding some Allen head or button head bolts this weekend in preparation for the ends here next week.
I found this right on time, I have been noticing how sloppy my linkage seemed to be getting and come across this fix. I finally found the parts locally at an Ace Hardware store of all places. One thing I did find was that the transmission lever was a #8x1.00 fine metric thread. I had to run back out and pick that one up.
Also Ace happened to have brass acorn nuts so I now have a brass nut.
