Update on the fix. The heim joints would not work on the standard shift rod. I even got another standard shift rod and it did not work as well. I paid 11.00 each for the heim joints at grainger. I think I am going to take them back and just order a shifter linkage from Landmark or Kuryakyn.

Mine are completed and was an easy mod to do. Much firmer shift (feels like). As well a piece of mind that the linkage will not fall off in the middle of nowhere. Which in Idaho , middle of nowhere is easy to do here. Took about 10 minutes to do. Did not have to do any adjusting, or moving the teeth on the splines. Perfect size HEIM joints worked great. I see this kit comes with two 1 1/4" bolts, but the OP used one 3/4" and one 1". What have other folks used.

I found this right on time, I have been noticing how sloppy my linkage seemed to be getting and come across this fix. I finally found the parts locally at an Ace Hardware store of all places. One thing I did find was that the transmission lever was a #8x1.00 fine metric thread. I had to run back out and pick that one up.
Also Ace happened to have brass acorn nuts so I now have a brass nut.
