Badda-Bing--->I think the confusion a lot of us are having is with how much people pull back their bars. If 10's are pretty much straight up and down (as I would think they should be) it would seam that the bottom of your grip is just barely clearing the fairing. Which means there is no wind blockage at all. I'd guess if someone pulled them back a little they might start getting some wind deflection from the fairing. This is only a guess though since mine have not arrived yet.
I put my 10's straight up to start with but they were uncomfortable to me. Im nearly 6'0" and consider myself to have fairly long arms. They were definetly above the fairing and provided NO protection. I moved them back around 1-2" and they were definetly more comfy and were just starting to provide some wind protection. Not direct protection but some wind deflection like you would see ina wind tunnel. Clear as mud?
Glen---> Believe it or not that is probably the most useful post I have read on this subject, and I've read a lot of posts! I am nearly an inch taller than you and what you describe is exactly what I am looking for. Big help in confirming I made the right call on getting 10's.
I just bought a set of 14" PY Bagger bars for my RK. Hopefully Harley will have everything completed tomorrow. I'll post up some pics once it's done.
I'm 6'1 and I had 16" apes before but they seemed a little low but I came from riding a Rigid Bobber with Apes. The RK forced me to lean the 16" apes back to clear the windshield. I bought a DragonFly fairing (currently in the paint shop) so that's why I went with the Bagger bars instead of the Monkey bars. Trying to get the drips further forward.
Before:
Got my bike back finally. 14" PY bagger bars on my Road King. Pending my DragonFly Fairing still.
I went with 12's, I dont think I would go any higher tho. Im 5'10 and they feel good, done 800 miles in a day, no regrets.
Gunslingerglide......you have any pic's of your bike from the front you could post? Want to see how far the 12's come up past the fairring. I want to get some PY MBB but trying to decide between the 10's or 12's. I'm 5'9 and the 10's and 12's both look good but everyone is different as far as what suits them. Thanks!
Here is a shot of mine showing the 10 inchers.
only got a short ride in with them so far, but WOW what a huge improvement over stock......so glad I did this mod
