Well I switched from the godawful Road King stock handlebars and put on a set of Carlini Bag Drags. Beautiful bars, comfortable when I am solo, but they push me back far enough that I am pushing on the wife. Enough that I don't think I can keep them on (and getting her own bike is not in the cards right now).
I really want to put on a set of small apes but I don't want to go through hassle of lengthening the wires and getting new cables.
Can anybody tell me if they have put a set of Wild One Chubby 10" bars on a 2009 up Road King or any other brand of "apes" that I can put on that can be installed with the stock wires and cables?
Thanks!
I put a set of wild one 10" mini apes on my 05 road king, didn't have to change cables, but had to extend the wires about 4-6"
I'm pretty sure you will have to lengthen your wires to go with any 10" bars.
It wasn't that hard to do.
I've heard the 10" wild1 bars fit without a new clutch or brake line, but they're at the absolute limit. It's probably best to call Wild1 and ask. You'll probably have to reroute the brake line in the nacelle.
I ended up just biting the bullet and going 14", ended up replacing everything.
I don't get it. I have read so many posts with complaints about RK bars. I am on my 3rd King, had stock bars on all of them, & loved them. Seems like everyone is replacing them with Heritage bars, which are very comfortable, but ugly. Only thing I might like better is stock '04 Fatboy bars, but the stockers on my King are great!
Had to replace everything for my16s and it was worth every penny. Best comfort mod I've ever done and I won't hesitate to do it again. 6', 34" inseam. Sounds like u already have one set of bars to get rid of, save up and do it right or have a garage full of handlebars. Jmho
Yeah, I really don't want to buy another set that I won't like. If I go with 10" Chubby's and I have to extend the wires, is there a wire kit you can buy?
I would say either heritage bars or the heritage style bars would be ur best choices w/o changin cables. Heres a recent thread about em and theres a pic that compares the 2 bars also!! https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...ion-issue.html
