Default FLHTPI Wire Harness

I want to put an aftermarket stereo in my 2003 Electra Glide Standard Police bike. Does anyone know if the wire harness is pre-wired to accept a stereo or did they use a different harness for the police models? Also, are there specific brackets that I need to put in said stereo?
Thanks in advance for the information.

I did it on an 07, bought the biketronics kit for the mount so it fits, it has a Sony car stereo but i dont have hand controls yet. The wiring harness is different in the police bikes so it would be advisable to get the service manual for both the P bikes and Touring to compare what you need on both ends to compare. Member "Harley Pingman" I believe has posted issues about this very question with some great information, if you search his posts you may find some older posts that answer your question. Good luck,

1+ on the Biketronics kit!

Installed one in my 09FLHTP. No hand controls, just 3 wires to hook up, switched hot, hot all the time and ground. it's a snap!

ditto on the biketronics kit. I called them a week later all confused and they explained for me to pick a hot a ground and an accesory wire of my choice, splice and solder and voila my radio works. No hand controls but i got over it quick looking @ the price.

Civilian and FLHTPI models from about '97 through about '10 use the same main wiring harness, so it's very easy to replace the interconnect harness (handlebar switches, gauges, etc.) on the police models with the civilian version. It's the interconnect harness that has the 23-wire connector for the radio (referred to as the "Base Audio Connector") that allows handlebar control of the radio which is present on the civilian interconnect harness, but absent on the police model.

I fabbed a BAC and made other wiring changes inside the fairing to replicate the wiring on civilian models so that I could use the Biketronics interface with Sony radio and have handlebar controls, and posted a "how to" several years ago. Made other mods to add HD cruise and oil pressure gauge. (Note: HD discontinued cruise control kits for '07 and older models making them very, very hard to find; and, expensive to piece together.)

I rode w/o handlebar controls of the radio and found it is safer to have the handlebar controls since the Sony radio I used at the time was not convenient to use with gloves on.

I'd like to put in a plug for Hawg Wired , I used their stuff on my 03 FLHTPI 5 years ago and it has performed flawlessly

Harleypingman, Carl. I'm trying to find your post for a BAC work post that you've made. I have a FLHTP that I want to get handlebar controls working. My bike has all the controls/buttons installed but not hooked up. Thanks
