Default anyone know......on the back of the sterio?

i'm trying to find out what kind of output jacks are on the back of the harman kardon sterio. i don't want to take off the fairing just to find out. what i'm trying to do is get an output jack to hook up to my helmet intercom system. if it helps, i have a streetglide so mabye i could use the rear speaker hook up?? or if anyone has a link to a diagram of that sterio. i searched the net and couldn't find one. the owners manual wasn't helpful. any ideas?

i want tunes in my helmet but don't want to have to carry an mp3 or anything. it's bad enough having all of the wires and box for the intercom. thanks all.

Just picked up the touring '07 service manual and looking into that there are three plugs in the back... two are for the radio, one is for the antenna. Didn't see any aux input in the back or was thier mention such. I'm leaning toward negative, but you can get adapters to hardwire your ipod into the antennae cable and physically run a radio frequency into the stereo deck that way. Probably what I'm going to do eventually... The Harmon Kardon plug and play is set up in such a way, and their are others that make such patch cables.

This is a Picture of the rear of a H/K mounted in a 06 Ultra. The little box on upper left is the CB.
That black round hole beside the CB is a groment to cushion the XM module. There are no open inputs or outputs on the rear of the radio.

The pic posted by SteelCity shows two multi-wire connectors plugged into the back of the HK. One is the main radio harness which is found on both Ultras and Classics. The other is what HD calls the underlay harness and it is found on Ultras but not stock Classics. The underlay harness comes from the rear of the bike and is for the rear speakers, the rear volume control, and the rear intercom. There is no rear speaker RCA plug receptacle as you would typically see on a car head unit on the HK radio.

Since the OP is apparently interested in sending output to his helmet speakers, something I might be interested in myself, why couldn't you use the rear-speaker outputs from that underlay harness? IIRC the fader controls are absent on our SG's, so I wonder how that feature could be enabled. If it could be, the problem might be solved. Another problem is the 2-ohm output of the speakers, not exactly a mainstream impedence from my experience. Most earphones will be no less than 4-ohm, I think, but we could place a resistor in line to increase the impedence.

Theother problem is that underlay connector on the radio is DEAD until you have a DEALER "flash" the ECM to activate it. That activates the fader controls and the outputs for the rear speakers. The radio is the same on The RG as the Ultra, just not fully used.

And thats around $75.00

This is a quote from PEZ(HOGTUNES) about this same subject of the radio, but with installing rear speakers. PEZ knows the Harley Audio Systems real well. But the infornmation applies well here.

ORIGINAL: PEZ

Hey there

Here is an exerpt from a FAQ sheet im goona put on my site one of these days--Hope it helps...PEZ

On 98-05 bikes, the factory radio will power 2 speakers only. In order to power more speakers, an amplifier must be present. The HD rear speaker kit for these years puts their amp under the tour pak, and powers the rear speakers (the radio powers the fronts). The “best” sound stays behind the rider and a detach tour-pak becomes VERY difficult to do.

On 06/07 bikes, the factory radio “can” power 4 speakers, but comes pre-programmed to run the 2 front speakers only. If the 06/07 HD rear speaker kit is added, the dealer must do a re-flash with his “HD Digital Technician” to turn on the rear speakers through the bikes ECM--which is usually a $75 charge to the customer. The customer must then buy the HD “Ultra Overlay Harness” to access the rear speaker “pins” on the back of the radio ($124.95 MSRP). Finally, the rear speaker kit can be added ($432.95 MSRP). This totals $632.90 before labor for 2 more stock speakers and no amplifier! Ultrasound installs seamlessly with no dealer re-flash required, which makes it a great choice for everyone including independent dealers or the “do it yourself” customer.

if there is any way to hook up the rear speaker output to a jack. radio shack sells the connector to my intercom. i thought about drilling it into one of the blanks by the auxillary switch in the lower part of the fairing. i thought of going to a boat dealer or supply and getting a weatherproof one. i allready have the cord, just nowhere for it to go.
