Cool Broken Tranny Case

So when Harley rolls over a Part Number should be clue 1 there's trouble

Red Line HD Tranny oil , ran Belt 1/4" loose than called out ( old school )

Should have been a simple Output Bearing change, once pressed out it was clear the Tranny case was cracked as well

My Tranny case came from Detroit 1 of 3 in the country I know cuse the Tranny I got from Ariz. came with a broken mouning tab.....

Signs: Shifting harder , Clicking noise -engine off or on rolling ,
50k miles crap wears out.....

Took just under 4 weeks waiting for parts was not fun.... The new case is Beffer say good 1/4" in the bearing area...

Like the Clutch hub that failed, I just received a call yesterday the new ones are slowly tricklen in , already went SE Clutch hub route

Oh ya, the Bearing and output gear "6th" was actually rusted together

New Tranny Case $ 359.00 + 3 day air $166

Having "Shirley" home for Christmass Priceless

Trackadaptor, the bearing and output gear rusted together ?? Moisture inside the tranny, or a Red Line issue? Asking becouse maybe I need to switch from Red Line to another brand ! Thanks, Craig

Yeah, how'd all that water get in the tranny case?


even though moisture will settle under the lube, it should have been warmed to the point where it could evaporate out the vent tube

a lot of moisture mixed with the lube will keep the lube from lubricating anything, so no surprise if bearings failed

Either a lot of riding in the rain or power washing it and getting water into the vent hose.

Rusty parts...betting on an assembly issue...sent parts to Harley

Red Line Oil is great stuff, I will never ever change

Water through the Vent Tube: Never used a power washer, not even on my Motocross bikes, Simple green, good cleaning mit, I use a Garden Water Nozzle.... but given that , take a look at your vent hose

Redline is too heavy,like mud doesn't get splashed around,doesn't get into small crevices. it's only good in exrtemely hot weather...................
