Do the Dealer seat demo for a afternoon and go from there. I went wit a rush temper
pedic.
One of the dealers here was good enough to allow me and my girl to test every seat they had available for several days each (tallboys, Zep, hammock, etc.).
We both loved the hammock the most. We rode the hammock between each of the other tests.
Been riding the hammock for 6 months or so; and every time she finishes a day in the saddle, she comments on how much she loves that seat.
She also loves the TerryCable shocks as well.... but that's another thread.
Good luck.
To the op I also had back surgery L4-L5 fused with rods, don't know what surgery you had I could not ride for a couple of years when I could nothing but pain. Had my stock seat modified by mean city made it a little better had to lower my rider backrest a inch, helped but still could not ride very far, a couple years went by and installed 16s that helped me from hunching over keeping my spine striaght then bought the road zepplin to see if that would help, bingo no backrest and I can now ride 3-400 miles easy also went with ohlins before seat your pain is all in your setup to fit you and some time to heal.
I have had same issues with L-4-5 fusion. I have 4 seats that I have acquired trying to make the ride better! Just bought the hammock two months ago, after several riders swearing there the best! Hate to say it, but on my 09SG I'm not happy with the ride?
Still looking for that magic seat.. So good luck!
I had an Ultimate on a vtx I had. It was nice. I think that the sundowner I use when riding with the wife is just as comfortable especially with a backrest. She has a dehydrated disc problem. The combination of Ohlins 3-3s and the sundowner has worked well for us. She can ride all day now, no pain, numbness, or tingling in her legs or back. I have a C&C fastback that I use when riding solo. I've done 800 mile days with it (and a backrest) comfortably.
I've had Corbin, Ultimate, Mustang and currently C & C. I liked the Corbin but their customer service reputation has kept me from being a repeat customer. The Ultimate wasn't bad except they require Frog Toggs rain covers otherwise rain leaks through the seams. Mustang was a pretty good seat after they replaced the first because of a big wrinkle. My current seat is a C & C solo and has been a great seat so far but the true test will be this summer when I take about a 4,000 mile road trip.
