Default Coming back after fractured vertebrae

I know there have been posts about riding after a lot of back issues. My question is what some of you find is the best seat for after a major injury or surgery. I currently have the hammock seat with adjustable backrest, and the first two rides after being released were not what I had hoped as far as feeling comfortable. Is the zepplin or a police air ride seat more of what people are doing after surgeries and what I should be looking at? Thanks for the help.

my experience is that the set up of the machine was far secondary to my own rehab/exercise, getting off meds and overall fitness- as well as working on my traffic-reading hazard spotting skills after a long lay-up.

I actually found that a backrest made more uncomfortable as it pressed against my back.

a cop type seat may help- I've had a bunch of harley's with pogo seats- you have to approach like riding a horse and "post"- keeping a good amount of weight on your feet

keeping the neck, shoulders and arms loose...abs tight

my own biggest problem is nerve control in the left leg- I have to "learn" to stop right foot down

In my experience after my back surgery and pain and nerve problems to this day is a firmer seat with a higher back part of the seat. I actually find my 2011 Wide Glide more comfortable than my Road King due to the fwd controls and Saddleman Tatoo solo seat I got for it with gel in it. At first I thought this seat is gonna be way to hard but with my combo of fwd control, seat and Ape hangers I can ride more than 80 to 100 miles without having to take a break to loosen up. My mustang touring seat on my Road King sucks to cramped with me being much closer to the bars and controls. my Lepera seat is better but the mustang is my only option at this time for riding 2 up and I'm very limited on my options due to my RK being a 1996. Frame change in 97 so very few options for me in the seat department. To be completely honest I changed my bars several times and I am now at the point where I am the most comfortable. Bars were just as important as anything else. Got expensive from Heritage bars to 12 inch Apes to 16 inch apes to finally 18 inch apes with a narrower stance than my 16s. Like I said got expensive and I get the occasional harrassment from the cops but screw it I'll pay any fines for myself to be comfortable and enjoy riding. Look at all the options you'll be surprised what can and will help.

Also gonna checkout a 2up seat from Drag Specialities that looks ok lower profile with a narrow seat which I also find helps. If anyone uses this seat how do you like it?

I fractured three vertebrae many years ago, so can sympathise. Comfort starts at the ground up! Consider changing tyres for a more compliant set, which will give you a smoother ride and iron out a lot of those annoying sensations.

Next up is shocks. Contact Howard of HDF sponsor Motorcycle Metal and ask his advice. The contrast between stock shocks and a set custom built fot you is remarkable. Finally, seat. Now the foundations are sorted out, you can judge if the seat is suitable.
