Sure just go get ECM, wiring harness, tank, intake, carb and all associated hardware off a '99-01 carbed touring bike and put it all on your bike. Or just sell that pile ya got and get a real harley; knucklehead!
Never been a fan of TBW, not because I have any of the problems discussed here but because I can't figure out what the purpose of it is??
It's an answer to a question that nobody asked.....a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
It's one more electronic thing that can go wrong and leave you stranded, make working on your bike more expensive and complicated and make parts such as handlebars, grips etc. more exclusive.
In 30+ years of riding I never had a problem with a throttle cable on any bike so I can't for the life of me figure out what is to be gained from TBW.
I don't like TBW either. It hesitates when starting from a complete stop. Almost lose the balance of the bike when taking a turn from a complete stop...
I hear the Stage 1 upgrade will get rid of the hesitation. Is this true?
The stage 1 will increase the timing slightly off idle and will help some. With a PV you can change your off idle timing to 24 degrees and increase the fuel 5% or so and you won't believe the difference. If you are running a PCV add 6 degrees in this same area and put about 8% fuel in the 750 to 1250 rpm area. Makes a huge difference. Harley runs very conservative timing except above 3000 rpms in the mid to low area. The stage 1 only adds 1 1/2degrees in this area and only adds 5 to 9% fuel in the wide open area from 2500 to 5000.

Uh...he's got 12K on it, something tells me if he was going to get used to it, he'd have gotten used to it by now..
UUNetBill, didn't see the K behind 12, was reading to fast. Dang, can't get away with nothing, lol.

Stopping freaked me out, you can not see the ground in front of the bike with a batwing at all, it scared me at first but after the first week or so, it was second nature, I forgot all about not being able to see the ground in front of me, it was a big change but I adjusted and I feel that you will do the same, just ride it man.
huh? He talking about throttle by wire (tbw) not the bat wing.
WG2011, was just giving my experience getting used to my bike when it was new. Thought he had 12 miles on it not 12K and was used to it. Thanks for the correction.
I have the SE pro tuner on the bike. Does any one know if you can change the map if you buy the cable? Harley tech said no. Thats why I had it dynoed. Why sell the link cable then? Sounds like guys on here are changing maps. I know PC and other tuners you can.

As mentioned, it filters the rider input to avoid random acceleration peaks to improve fuel economy. Cruise control and ABS are benefits as well.
Since control input is a sensor, sensitivity should be adjustable. A few tuners will do this.
I did notice some difference between my previous cabled Softail and when I first got the RK. Stock, TBW seems to make the bike sluggish in lower throttle positions. After Stage 1, the input felt similar to the Softail. I don't believe I could tell the difference now.
Anybody convert from TBW back to cables with a carb? I hate it more and more everyday. I've been riding my 01 RK more and more as a result. Too sensitive on decel. Slightest twist forward and the RPMs drop off drastically. 12K miles on my 12 RK and I can't still cant get comfortable with it. I have no problem giving up the cruise control at this point! I HATE TBW!
I recently went from a 2000 softail (carbureted) to a 2011 FLHTP (FI) and haven't really noticed what your talking about. As far as I can tell it seems about the same to me, so maybe there is something just not programmed correctly on your new bike.
I have 2 HD's, one carb with cable throttle and one EFI with TBW. The TBW is new to me this year. There is a huge difference between them. Looking into getting the PC-V. Was going to wait until the winter but will do it soon.
