sorry to hear but glad you and the wife didn't get hurt much worse. i think if you had a malfunction with the abs there should be a code. was there a loose dirt gravel or sand in the road? here's to a quick recovery as for your wife hopefully she gets her courage back up to ride again,it's a unforeseen accident (or she can get her own bike)

ABS is to prevent locking up tires if skidding so should have released even on gravel etc. if that was the case. Too bad there isn't a way to test system before getting bike fixed.

Glad your both OK and hope your wife changes her mind in future.

Glad you and yours are OK.
May be a good time to review the ABS DVD that came with your bike.
Another road test is to check it on an area where you have some light sand or gravel and note the wheels pulse and not lock up and slide. Be sure to hold a straight line during this test, especially the front wheel test.
As previously mentioned, become familiar with the ABS lights and when they are to go out. Great to note at the start of every ride.
Ride safe!

So did you only grab the front brake or did you apply both? I never apply the front by itself only the rear (usually at slower speeds) and I feel the ABS kick on once in awhile when I do that. In my experience with my 2010 SG (NO ABS) it had a tendency for the the rear to swing around under heavy braking if you weren't careful with brake pressure on the front and rear brake. Applying the front (only or too much with both brakes) to heavy then trying to turn the bike could have reduced traction on the front wheel and causing it to slide out from under you with all the weight of the bike on it as you are trying to stop the forward motion of the bike.

I applied both front and rear brakes at same time I always use the front brake sparingly for this reson. We were going strait. I went by the acededent seen on my way home from the hospital. The tire mark was completely strait no turning at all it was about 20ft long. The bike slid a total of 100 yards or so. I keep playing it through my head it should have never happened.

If you were leaning maybe the front wheel lost traction and slipped out from underneath you then? Stuff happens so fast some times. You guys are ok and that's what matters. You can diffidently feel the anti-lock brakes kick in, you get a positive feed back from the rear brake pedal and you can usually hear the tires.

20 ft skid marks.
Sounds like there is something wrong with you ABS. I have been on my brakes HARD in the rain and the ABS doesn't let the tires lock other than an occasional pulse when the ABS senses the wheel has stopped. Saturday I activated the ABS on both wheels in the rain and almost drifted into an intersection because of the ABS. (ARE YOU SURE YOU HAVE ABS?)
