Default RE: Stereo Install

We really need someone to post a how-to for the retro radio kits. As much as people ask about alternative radio options on this forum it would help out alot of people IMHO.

Thanks for all the advice. Sounds like I plug everything in and use the existing wires in my bike. Can't wait for something to do this weekend so I can cruise with tunes! Someone asked about the cost of the stereo. I found the Sony 5710 for $107 after rebate from www.abesofmaine.com !!! The retro radio kit ran about $200 and the speakers around $120. I had harley install the antena when the added my detachable backrest and hardware. Harley stereo was about $1300! From what everyone has said, I will have a better system for less than 1/2 that price!

Wow. Great price for the 5710. Biketronics sold me mine for $199. Abesofmaine.com has their's for $139 and after rebates, its $109. Woot! Wish I bought it from them.

But if you get the 5710, be sure to get teh retro radio from Biketronics. They did a grea job on that unit and it will save you loads of hassles.

The 5710 with the retro radio makes it very simple. I did mine in about one hour. Remove the outer sleeve first from the radio. It is made for a car, so use the tools that come provided with it and remove the sleeve. Then slip the collar over the radio. Ther retro piece then allows you to mount it to the stock housing with two shims that come with the retro radio kit. Then plug the Harley multi plug into the retro's plug, and wallah. Plug in the handle controls (1/8 th mini jack) into the specified hole, plug in the antenna, and you are ready for tunes. Add some Hogtunes speakers and you in for a new ride!

Hope that helps!

Installed the kit from Biketronics last night. I thought was as easy as it could get, like the sound but havn't had time to take it for a spin. Biketronics A+A+A+A+A+A+A, even looks good used the GT400 package with the clear face shield. Super product ! Just hope my exhaust is not so loud that I can't hear the radio. Find out next week...
