I have an older ipod that does not seem to work with the radio on the new 2014 Ultra Limited. Any suggestions as to what works best?

Put your music on a USB stick. Works great.

File structure doesn't matter, but I use:

Root
___Artist Name
______Album Name
_________Song 1 Name.mp3
_________Song 2 Name.mp3
_________Album Art.jpg

You can use various file formats. If you use playlists, (listname.m3u) at long as they describe the full path to the song, you can put the lists in the root. You may wish to limit size to 16Gb. Too big a stick size takes a long time to boot up the radio.

Hope this helps.

I have a 2014 street glide. I tried my older (about 10 years ?) ipod classic it worked but not that well. My kid smashed the screen on her iphone 4s. I cleared everything off it, loaded it with music and it works great.

I use a thumb drive and it works great. Very simple and don't have to worry about charging it.

The older, "first gen" iPods with the actual spinning hard drive don't work so well with the bumps, they tend to crap out with impacts. If you're going to go "iPod," look for one that has the flash memory, like the iPod mini or later. Or go with the USB stick/flash drive.

Default Ipods

Agree with previous posts about using a USB Flash Drive. I've downloaded my entire collection of almost 3300 songs on one and it works great. For whatever reasons the IPOD Classics won't work for very long. Usually one or two good bumps in the road craps out the IPOD Classic. The IPOD Nano's work great but a downside is you either have to take it with you when you leave the bike or risk someone stealing it from your bike. If they steal your USB Flash Drive you're only out the cost of it and the aggravation.

And if somebody pops the cover and steals it you're only out an $8 thumb drive...

I use a 7th Gen iPod Nano, since it's plugged in, I don't have to worry about charging it.

If someone "pops" my cover, they'll be disappointed. I ran a usb cable to the tourpak, and mine is safely locked inside, within a pouch in my wall organizer.

I still have a usb in the JukeBoxŽ because it is easy to plug in the stick for updates there, but it is about 3" longer than the stock one.
And I have a usb on the left handlebar, because I strap my GoProŽ remote on that side, because the battery life of that thing sucks.

I added a usb hub under the fairing.... yeah, it cost me more than the $8 usb stick, but I enjoyed doing it

Just use a thumb drive and put it on shuffle in the radio settings. You can get a 16gb for around ten bucks. It'll hold plenty of tunes. And if it gets stolen, oh well, it's a cheap investment. Like others have mentioned the older iPods have a physical hard drive which are not going to do as well being bounced around.
