Default 07 roadking taillight problem??

Hello my rear tailights/brakelights quit working tonight but my lower rear fender light still works..any ideas? Weird because the rear blinkers blink because of alarm so there has to be connection?? Could it be actual on/ off ignition switch on gadtank??any opinions will help me narrow down problem..thanks!!

Have checked voltage at the bulb? Those circuits are probably independent. If there are no blown fuses, then you may have open in the circuit somewhere.

check fuses first

if your bike is lowered, the tire may have chewed up the wiring running on the inside of the fender.

there is a plug at the front of the rear fender, under the seat, which is where power from the main wiring harness is transferred to the rear lighting

you could disconnect the plug(s) and test the circuits;

black is ground
blue is run
red/yel is brake
violet and brown are turns signals

check that you have power at the main harness, then work your way back.

you may need to pull the rear tire

So I took taillight cover off and wiggled bulb and it came on..only problem is brake light wants to stay on and if I mess with brake lever it goes off and on and I hear a click by fusepanel...sometimes it works when I mess with lever sometimes it doesn't?? I'm clueless

there is a relay for the brake light by the fuses- that's likely be the click...you might also feel it if you put your hand on it.

electricity is simple- it is exactly like plumbing.

you just have the be methodical...you'll be way ahead if you get a wiring diagram, like the one in the manual

You have a problem, between the relay Mike mentioned and the light unit. These things are often mechanical, in other words the bulb is defective (replace), a wire is damaged or broken, something simple like that. You can inspect it yourself, to find the precise problem, or visit a dealer/indy. That's about as close as we are going to be able to get, short of visiting you and your bike!

Cool

Thx guys the bulb definatly isn't burnt out because it now works, and I took off brake lever to see if it made a difference but it still just stays lit as if brake lever where pressed..funny thing I noticed is if I turn ignition switch a touch towards off position the brake light goes off and taillight only stays lit,but brake light won't come on in this position when either front or rear brake is pressed..ya I guess I'm going to have to take it somewhere..thx guys!
