Default Advice on XM receiver location

I put an XM satellite radio receiver on my SG this weekend. It works great, but I'm not real excited about the location. I simply unsnapped the left windshield bag and fastened the radio bracket there. As you can see in the linked picture, it leaves a little to be desired. So I'm wondering, who has a better idea? Thanks for any responses.

I am using a Kuryakyn fairing mount for my XM receiver

I had mine mounted on my left bar so I could change channels with my thumb.

this is the old Delphi unit which was made to slide into a car cradle, easily modified with 2 clamps on the bar

Left bar would be ideal. As you can see, I've got my Garmin Nuvi mounted there. I may just put the XM there when I'm not using the Garmin. I am also looking in to a Garmin Zumo 665 that has XM - but I understand that it is only bluetooth compatible with XM, so I guess I still have to have the receiver somewhere. Be nice to have one unit do both, that would solve my situation. Thanks for the reply & pic!

Can you remove the center windshield bag and mount the radio there. It would balance things out better.

swap them

that puts the XM where you can thumb the controls

that also puts your gps where you can see it AND the road at the same time.

I don't like to put anything where i can't see the road at the same time.

deer, 2x4's, ladders, left turners...it can all happen fast

mkguitar - That's not a bad idea. I went home at noon and took the Garmin off, put the XM on the handlebar, and put the windshield pouch back on. Much better. I don't use the Garmin around home, just on long trips. Just need to move the wires for the XM and it's done. maybe tonight if the temp gets down below 100 degrees!

Hecklerboy - Hate to do that, it's the only one of the three pouches big enough to hold anything more than a pack of gum...

Default Update on garmin and xm mount

Found this setup online:

http://www.tandtfabrications.com/sto...l_adapter.html

Ordered it today. Should be able to mount Garmin front & center, and keep the windshield bags. Think it's gonna work...

rat, I have the same XM unit. Mine is mounted on the right side, in front of your cup holder. I used the heavy duty plastic velcro (gator grip stuff) and ran the wires down the handle bar and into the fairing. I had the same issue with the HD mounted GPS on the left side. It fits right under the right side fairing pouch.
