I have a 2016 triglide. The engine light and temp light both come on. My question is, shouldn’t the fans be running at this time?
The fans and pump run when I do a manual test with the half throttle method. I’m at a loss because it doesn’t matter about ambient temps. It will act up on cool mornings and not on hot afternoons or vis versa. The coolant bottle is completely full now rather than at the cold fill line after it sits overnight. It is not returning to the radiators like it should.
Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks
I can force the water pump on and it acts fine but no way of telling if it’s moving coolant or not. Also when you force it on it bypasses the temp switch.
When the lights are on, neither fan is running and it seems as though they should be weather the pump is working or not. Totally confused as to the what controls what and when.
System Bleed and Fill Any time the cooling system is repaired or coolant loss has occurred, the system must be filled and bled correctly. If all air in the system is not purged before engine operation, the system may continue to have issues. This process takes about 5 min to perform correctly. See Drain and Fill Cooling System in Chapter 1 of the 2014 Touring Service Manual.

Here is a video that you may find useful. Air pockets can form and cause overheating (regardless of ambient temps), and you can also see how to tell if the water pump is pumping coolant.
Pull the codes and have a look. The thermostat could be bad and blocking the flow of coolant . More likely the pump is bad and may be time to throw all that lousy engineered system away and go with the new system.
