Default Rear tires

Riding an 07 FLH Standard with a Dunlop 402 on the rear and only getting about 7000 miles. What tire is there that can perform as well and get more miles.

Take a look at the new Michelin commander II. I have not used them yet, but they are advertising 20,000 mi wear.

7-8k seems to be the norm for rear tires. I get about the same mileage and Ive used dunlop, metzler, and even kenda....they all died within 1k of each other.

16,000 on Dunlop E3's ...........'10 Road King, got a few grand left in 'em.Jury's out on Michelin.......no one has proven the mileage claim, that I know of,up here. The Harley dealer is trying to tell me they will give me double what I get from Dunlop.......what a crock........for 500 bucks the pair, they'll claim anything.

07 Ultra. Dunlop E3. First two were at 22,000 when I picked up a screw on one, a piece of metal on the other. My current E3 has 20,000 on it with a lot of meat left on the bone. Only tire I will use.

With the OEM 402 I was getting around 12-15,000.

yeah, I've heard good things about the E3's. I wont use anything but Dunlop on my 09, I got 25k on the front D408 and 19k on my 2nd rear D407. I just ordered the Dunlop American Elites from Dennis Kirk, $65 for a front tire!!! over 70% off MSRP.

I found 402's to wear something close to iron, IF kept properly inflated. I replaced the original at 22000klms. Heavy loads, high speeds, and low pressure make for very fast wear. They need 40lbs rear.
I also found the 402 to be treacherous b....ch on onything but dry pavement, light loose sand, water, road oils all had me sliding all over the road.
I first upgraded to a 404, much better grip, it lasted about 16000 klms, but didn't slide around quite as much. Went thru 3 of them before switching to an Avon Roadrunner - wow, superior grip everywhere, 5000 klms show no appreciable wear I can see. I am now running Avon Roadrunner both front and rear. I have a Commander 2 on my front wheel. It's been on for 7 months(since March), and it looks to have maybe 3 or 4 more months left. I've got just a hair over 5K on it now, so I'm thinking I will have to replace it around 7K. I have a Commander 1 on the rear, and it is run down to almost tread-less, but it's been on for 16 months, and about 7K

Hated stock Dunlops & swore I'd never use them again & used Avon Venom X's for years. After motor build I only got 5K on two rears & local wrench swore by Dunlop Elite 3's so I tried a set. Handling is awesome & so far wear on rear is great, 6K & lots of tread left. Cheaper than Avons too. Most important thing is keeping air pressure up to Dunlop specs which is higher than HD's. Check my pressure every couple weeks.
PS American Elites are different than Elite 3's.
