Does the fender need to be removed to install the supports brackets/or to mount the licence plate light wiring to the underside of the fender?I'd rather not have to.

It's much easier if you do. I took the support brackets with the fender off as one assembly. The 4 bolts near the seat and the fender and brackets come off as one assembly. If you try to do just the fender. There is another bolt underneath AND you risk scratching the fender as it's a tight fit if the support brackets are fully tightened down.
Once the entire assembly is off, then on the bench you can remove just support bracket on the left side to get to the license plate wiring. Once all wired up just re-install the entire fender strut assembly as one.
I've done it twice lol. Once to remove the license plate and then again to add the curved brake light. It's just much much easier off the bike.
Good luck!

you guys have the stock licence plate hanging by the left rear indicator correct?
In Europe there's a metal piece attached to the frame with the plate behind the rear wheel.Apologies if ypu have the same. The wiring runs down the swing arm in through the under seat cover I think.
