I find it quite funny(or shocking) that i am reading this and thinking to myself that this must be HD standard response to EVERYTHING!!!! I also have surging problem which is normal according to dealer, also have loud clunk when shifting -also normal according to dealer, also have loud knock coming from left side primary area-which is of course NORMAL according to dealer and now I am noticing a clunking sound when the clutch is let out -which i'm sure will be normal whaen i talk to the dealer.. It seems that once HD gets your money for the purchase of the bike they are done with you!!!!! I have a leaky front master cylinder cap that the dealer ordered over a month ago and they still keep telling me its back ordered!!!! I am real close to going back to a METRIC CRUISER

Can you explain the surging problem . It the motor racing up and down or is the transmission slipping .

Lean surge, they all do it (07 up)unless you fix it, bike will run at 14:7 or worse at constant throttle and idle, idle will be uneven and at constant throttle bike will seem to stop and go, worse if you are lugging it(not saying you are It's nothing that several grand can't fix. Get stage I download at the very least, pipes and AC, better yet get a thundermax or SERT or other advanced fuel management. Personally I think the 96 motor is also a little unbalanced, change to 103" and ditch stock cams. Sorry the stock bikes don't really come ready to "run". You can blame the EPA or blame Harley for meeting 08 standards in '07( a test year noone can argue that) and the "torque smoothing" download only changed the ignition timing at low rpm's so the bike would make less power at lower rpm's so you would do less damage to your bike if you lugged it, the 96 is a stroker it hates low rpm's.Open your wallet. It's kind of frustrating that you have to do so much, but that's the reality. Peace.

Sorry to hear yer having problems, I had a 07 Street Bob, no problems with about 6000 miles on it. Got a 07 Wide Glide 10,000 no problems like that.
Buddy has a 07 Street Bob and a 07 Street Glide no problems like that.
Have you tried a different dealer.

My 07 FXD has a slight surge that is worse when the bike isn't fully warmed up. No doubt this is a lean surge that is probably aggravated by my addition of Cycle Shack slip-ons. What should be of more concern is the issue addressed in the latest issue of American Rider. These motors are running so lean they are running hot as Hell! Even if you don't have a surge or don't notice the heat all the time I believe some retuning is in order. Check Joe Minton's column out. It eventually shows up online at http://www.americanrider.com/more.cfm?sectionid=348

"They all do that"...it's like walking into the autoparts store and being told you have to go to the dealer or a wrecking yard for an oil cap on a 350 Chevy. It's all about the quality of the people you deal with, unfortunately it is on a down hill slide.

Just got my 2000 FXD ( stage 2 with carbs )out of maintenance found a surge in all gears. This bike has 35K on it and this is a first for me. Reminds me of float problems in some Autolite Carbs from the 60's.

Back she goes tomorrow.

Was talking with Mike at Lattud-hd and he stated that yer bikes are surging cause they are running lean. Either from the factory download, because you have jacked with the pipes and or changed them or have changed the air intake.
My suggestion would be a Thundermax. If you git one you can order it with yer setup that you have on yer bike now. You can go to the thundermax web site and look at them.
