Switchback "ripoff"
Forgive me ROMEO , if I dont see those mid controls with floorboards on your 2010 in the photo. Am I missing something? I see forwards with floorboards.
Like my post said........"without modifications" on bikes with mid controls.
Are you telling me you had floorboards WITH mid controls? If so, I stand corrected.

The Dyna Police has forwards like the setup Romeo has. I don't know of any Harley that has floorboards with mids. But I haven't seen everything.
Again, it's a Dyna! Oh...all the parts are interchangeable among the Dyna family...in the right year models, that is.
While I think jpace24 may be mistaken (don;t know; haven't tried or see it tried), it's a Dyna, so why would one want to put floorboards on it?!

The old dyna police had them but parts are not avail.
He used the vtwin set, and fabricated the rest of the parts.
It helps that he owns a fabrication shop.... Hes a member, look for them...
I don't think that OldEnuf was deservant or your sarcasm. His simple statement was very close to factual and I'm sure he doesn't have or need any HD proprietary information to make that statement.
Assembly time and therefore labor costs would be the same. That leaves the cost difference in the pistons and cylinders and the other parts needed for the increased displacement. These cost deltas are too close to call, since the tooling for the 103" upgrade to the 96" engine upgrade has already been done by the factory for their 103" kits of the past. I don't recall the change from 88 to 96 inches associated with a price hike and that change required retooling.
Harley is just testing the water on their pricing, but a niche bike, due to it's other newly manufactured parts, will need to be priced a bit higher to regain the costs of research, engineering, development and testing.
Those pipes and bags, for example, were a whole new product that was brought to life just for this bike and made to fit together. The R&D costs for them will be tacked onto the first few thousands of FLD bikes sold, etc., etc..

Remember the waiting lists and prices well above MSRP?
The dealer parts guy told me it would be a week or so before they would be able to price up all the indivdual pieces. If you are replacing forward controls, the shift rod and brake rod may be reusable, if replacing mid controls you would need everything.
There was a poster earlier in this thread that was having a problem visualizing these boards with mid controls. Simple misunderstanding, these floorboards have integrated shifting and braking mechanisms. This would be a complete replacement of forward or mid controls.
The chinese knockoff set of FXDP boards are a little lacking in quality. The FLD system appears to be of the highest quality. The chinese set can be had on eBay for $398 plus shipping. I'm hoping to piece together the FLD system for under $500.

I have been reading about the Switchback in several different threads.
One thing I have yet to see anyone bring up is the fact the Fuel tank is smaller.
Fuel capacity is only 4.7 Gallons. And now with the EFI, there is not a Reserve, just a Low Fuel Light.
The Touring models have a 6 Gallon Fuel tank.
Looks like this is not a long distance touring bike. Just another Bar Hopper.

Who has a buttocks that can last an entire fuel tank at 6 gallons?
BTW, I'd almost be willing to kill for your "Duo-Glide!" That is one beautiful motorcycle!
Hogrida; With my SunDowner seat and hiway pegs, I know I could run a 6 gallon tank dry! Do it with my 5.2 gallon tank all the time. Grab an atlas and check out eastern Montana-Western North Dakota; not many roads and a long way between any kind of big towns. Around here, anything under 500 miles is "a short ride"!
I wish that I had more capacity. I run mine 200 miles and am bummed when I have to stop and fill up. If you cant go from tank to tank then your bike isn't set up right for you.
Ever since I put on my Mustang, I have found myself on more than one occasion sippin the fumes in the tank pulling into the gas station.
