Default Headlight Help, Please.

Hello everyone. Long time; no post.

BACKGROUND:
2006 Street Bob with stock headlight. Bucket has vibrated/worn to the point that the riveted mount is totally sitting inside the bucket at this point (I know...totally ghetto. I use my leather travel pouch secured on top of it to keep it in place). The vibration wore on the low beam (yellow) wire to the point that I could see bare wire and the low beam no longer works. I've been running on high beam-only for a long, long time. Yesterday, high beam went out...no light now. Blinkers/brake light still works. There's the background...

As stated, after running on only a high beam for many months, it finally went out yesterday about 2 miles from home. I [dangerously] limped home with no headlight. Opened it up to find the yellow low-beam wire was really worn and exposed (but still intact). I guessed that everything shorted out and/or the bulb finally blew. Went for the short troubleshooting first...

Snipped the worn yellow wire area off and reconnected the ends with what was left between the bulb connector and the rubber grommet thing going in to the bucket. Still no lights. Everything inside the connector to the bulb looks fine to me. Figured it's the bulb now...

Got a replacement bulb but still no dice. Headlight won't light up. Blinkers and brake light works.

Questions...

If my fuse was bad, the blinkers and brake light wouldn't work, correct?

If not the fuse and the headlight wires are now all connected with no visible damage and a new bulb still doesn't light up, how likely is it that something is wrong with the harness or the connector to the harness at the other end of the headlight wires?

I'm sort of at a loss here. I was going to buy a new bucket/light, but, if I can't get a replacement bulb to come on even though everything appears to be connected securely, I think I have other issues I need to address.

What do you think those issues may be?

Thanks in advance.

well I cant say for sure cause I didn't look into it but usually head light is a different fuse then turn signals. start by checking the fuses

From the service manual it appears there is just a #14 Lights Fuse that would fit the description. Anyone know if it's on a different fuse? Haven't noticed anything else going wrong.

Just replace the fuse and see what happens. Last time I checked, fuses were fairly inexpensive. If it's not a fuse issue, at least you have eliminated that possibility.

Could be....You have a ground problem. Take a short length of wire and with the switch in the "on" position, place the wire on the lamp bucket and another bare metal spot on the chassis.

As for the loose rivets, I had the same thing happen. I had access to some aviation grade "High-Lock" rivets. So, I drilled out the loose rivets and replaced them with high-locks. Problem solved!

Hope this helps....

Best wishes....Tim(HT)

Incorrect! I just answered it myself. Bad fuse.

Now spend some coin and get a new light bucket, and fix the wiring...
