Obviously the is the new style compensator after the crankshaft 10 spline was changed to a serration (small V grooves) drive. Mine had a little fretting similar to yours but was still smooth sliding and no shake at 30K. Hard to see in my picture but looked like yours. You can also see it on the face of my cover item 5 . Probably just allows lubrication to work better as long as you still have a lot of contact left. However, when you say the part was marked for obsoletion, does that mean you can no longer get that part but surely you can get the whole compensator assembly for a 2004. I would assume most if they replaced that part would also replace the sliding cam that slides on that spline.

im not sure about the 04 assembly, but when i was buying parts for my 06 the parts guy said you can no longer get the complete stock compensator assembly but that you can stillbuy the individual parts. he also said the individual parts were marked for obsoletion but that they could still get it for me. the super seced part for the assemble was the SE one. i will admit that i didn't do any research on it and just took his word for it

Alan, have you gotten enough rides in to give us full report on your build?

Usually don't have to prod me to give updates but kinda understand, it's been a couple of week since dyno and I have not said much. The biggest reason is because I have not been able to ride very much, I have done one 20 minute ride in the last 10 - 12 days. This is why I decided to load it up and let Steve(GMR) troubleshoot the no oil pressure when cranking - I was out of spare time for awhile and wanted to be able to ride when I could. Anyway enough

After a couple quick rides just after dyno(~100 miles including dyno miles) I dumped the oil and noticed hardly any metal on the plug so I guess all the parts went in well. Plan on riding about 200 - 300 more miles then dump oil again then back to synthetic.

After dyno I specifically ask Steve if I need to worry about break in anymore and he said no. I am more in the Motoman man camp on break in so I have rode it pretty hard on my couple of rides. The bike runs great and the tune is better than any Autotune or FM map I have ever had. The power is so smooth and strong and I can decel anyway I want to and the motor sounds fantastic - no decel popping or roughness, just sounds mean. The Bassanis 1D5250s may not produce numbers but they sound especially nice with a built motor - deep and throaty and pretty frickin loud

Now for a little set back: last Saturday I was planning on a longer ride but I noticed a Check Engine light and went back home. Pulled the DTCs on my PV and kept seeing Coil F and Coil R(among others) so I checked my spark plugs and the front one was loose - I had screwed them in and left the cables off and had told Steve that they were loose so he could take them out checking for oil pressure. Not trying to blame anyone, I think Steve is fantastic, just slipped through the cracks somehow. Anyway, cleared the DTCs and torqued the plugs and went for a short ride and still had one DTC - U0001 Hist CAN BUS. Tomorrow I am going to look over the battery, etc and try to clear the DTC and hopefully go on a long ride.

Sounds like your enjoying your build and had a hell of a learning experience throughout it all.

Try to get a video clip of your bike with the pipe and your 590 cams. Sure would like to hear her purrrr.

Ride safe and keeps posted which way you go with your clutch setup.

Sorting out the bugs after such an exhaustive build comes with the territory. I think if all you have are some loose spark plugs and maybe a battery cable or some other plug you can consider yourself lucky.

I know if it were me I'd be cautious doing short trips and re-checking things as I went until I felt confident everything was working. .in fact that's what I've been doing, got my first long ride set for Sunday!
