Heat the pistons up, then the pins will slide in. Bake them or use a heat gun but they don't have to be smoking hot, just rather warm.

My top end is still in pieces sitting on my bench junglejoe. I found out today the rest of the parts and the flex hone are waiting for me at the post office. Didn't get home in time to grab them tonight. Looks like tomorrow I'm going to start cleaning and resembling things. I'm dying to get this done so I can get out and ride.

Ditto Spanners39 as usual .
Time to break out the oven mitts.
As Spanners said , try baking the pistons in your oven @ around 300 F so they are still hot enough when you get them to where you need them. Lube the pins and procede carefully .
Another alternate way is to lube up the pins and then put them in your freezer overnight and again procede carefully.
All of this is basically to ensure that when the pin is inserted , it will travel through the hole easily and not gouge the softer piston material.

got it. Thanks for the info guys. I'll try the freezer. I'm planning on putting the pistons into the cylinders when they are upside down on my bench. Be easier for me to compress the rings with the tool I am using plus the oven is on the fritz right now. Looks like I need to add a heat gun to my toolbox.

Red loctite is permanent while blue loctite will allow you to remove the bolts again when you need to.

What bolts are you talking about? I don't think the manual wants you to use loctite on any of the motor fasteners except the cylinder studs, and they need red loctite 271.
