Okay I stand corrected then, I was told that the 1998 Transmissions were exclusive to 1998 due to the larger clutch basket being a 9 disc design. I assumed that if the clutch basket was capable of holding 9 discs that it was different and unique from the rest. My apologies, I learned something new today.

Glad you got the shifting sorted out, the new drum and pawl setup, either OEM or Baker are definitely worth the effort.

For those of you that are still having problems with mishifts and hard to find neutral I suggest you replace the ***** in your ramp which are currently .375-in and go with a 10 mm (.3937") ball I have documented .018" more throw at the pressure plate which allows me to never miss a gear nothing... The whole thing didn't even cost me 30 bucks, bearings, gasket and fluid...

I know this thread is old but I plan on upgrading the shaft pawl assembly to bakers anti overshift and I plan on getting they’re N1 drum or they’re smooth shift kit I’m still undecided. This is all being replaced on a 2000 DYNA FXDS. But my question is, do I need to make any upgrades to those 2 bearings on the trap door since I have the better ones, that came on 2000-2005 dynas. If you can let me know thanks

TAKE NOTE THAT IT WILL NOT WORK ON ANY EARLIER EVO'S DUE TO THE MAIN SHAFT BEING LONGER (9 Disc clutch), THIS IS AN UPGRADE FOR1998 ONLY!

That doesn't mean that your 1993 or whatever cant be upgraded, ANYTHING can be modified or upgraded but it will cost you more and you'll need to buy more parts like an inner primary maybe? Clutch hub? Etc etc...

Below is a link to the exact same gear set purchased that I purchased on Flea bay.

Simply upgrade that gearset with a Baker Shift drum, shifter pawl and Twinkie neutral switch and you'll be on business. No extra parts needed whatsoever.

The differences are literally night and day, TOTALLY SERIOUS.

NO MORE FALSE NEUTRALS DURING WOT SHIFTS!

You'd thank me later, just make sure you're a seasoned mechanic who has all of the special tools needed for a job of this nature to include Jim's inner race installation tool and a means of pressing in your final drive gear to the larger left side of the case.

I used no hammers whatsoever on my install.

I have roughly $600.00 into everything because I put new bearings and seals in throughout my transmission. I also had to pay for my Jim's puller/installation tool.

Best money I've spent on my bike.

Good luck!

Hey there I seen that you upgraded your gearset to an early twin cam with they’re trap door bearings as well. My question to you is I have a 2000 Dyna FXDS and I’m going to be upgrading my pawl assembly and shift drum to Baker and wanted to know if the gear set and bearings on the trap door are all the same right from 2000-2005, I want to know if I have the better gear set with the updated trap door just to make sure.
