I bought my first HD this evening ... a new'07 Street Glide. The first mod I will make is to lose the much-too-quiet factory mufflers and replace them with louder, freer-flowing mufflers. The dealer's Parts Managersaid the factory mufflers were slip-ons, and that it is very difficult to remove them. So difficult, in fact, that I (of course!) should bring the bike back to them to have them do it.
I'm usually one to do things myself, but I'm more thanhappy to have them do it if removing the factory mufflers is truly difficult. Are they really hard to remove? What's been your experience?
There not fun, of course make sure everything is loose, wiggle them back and forth seems to be the best attack, also if you can add some WD-40 where the muffler joins the header pipe, if you can do that and a few choice words, they will slide right off.
Congrats on your new scooter, I was debatingStreet glide or the deluxe I bought.
Not sure what slip-ons to go with - I have another thread on that subject going in the General Discussion forum. I just want something that is very, very healthy sounding - and loud enough for cagers to hear me when I'm in their blind spot.
I just installed Python Dresser Slip-on's(made by Vance and Hines),,same as their oval slip-on's but have a scalloped cut at the end
great sound when you roll on the throttle, not overly loud at cruise speeds
