I've been watching this thread for almost two weeks now waiting to see if anyone has my answer. Because this is a Harley forum, I guess not. When touring in high country (Rockies etc.) or in early spring or late fall, then all winter long I reach for the Aerostich Roadcrafter 2-pc or my Darian outfit.
I've had my Roadcrafter for 12 years now and it's been that long since I had cold knees. You can make all the power ranger jokes at my expense that you want. I think the pirate look is pretty damn stupid below forty degrees. I've been touring for 45 years now and remember the bad old days. This modern equipment is first rate. A good riding suit, heated grips and electric vest or jacket liner, polar-tec layers, 400 gram thinsulate Red Wings and some Lee Parks phase change insulated gloves. Life is good.
I have a top tier leather jacket (Langlitz) but when going cross country or winter riding there is better gear out there.
I read through this thread and I have to say if you are riding in zero degree weather, you are just nutz.. IMO!! I am in WI and freezing... 32 degrees... is my cut off. Not only is it cold, but one slick spot on the road and that's all it would take. My winter gear is a cycle cover and garage. Then a Tahoe... I can go all winter long here and not see one bike in the winter. If I want to be in the open air riding when it is that cold, i will be on the trails on my sled....
