Ignition/Tuner/ECM/Fuel InjectionNeed advice on ignition issues? Questions about a tuner? Have questions about a EFI calibration or Fuel Injection? Tips on Engine Diagnostics, how to get codes, and what they mean. Find your answers here.
#1) This step by step process you talk about is buried in a thread with 7650 posts. Who knows where this step by step process exists? New PV tuners would like to know.
#2) Being new to PV, I had no idea about the reduced timing in autotune mode.
#3) This is a forum, not an encyclopedia, people are expected to be able to ask questions and get answers, not be told to "do a search".
#4) If someone would kindly point me to the post that has the step by step process, I'll not ask anyone anything further.
#5) I'm sorry if people get tired of helping new HD owners, new DIY tuners, etc., but I for one will still provide the noob with advice as to oil, slipons, etc. (I don't get into the "wave or not to wave, what is a real biker crap.....)
Bottom line, I have a new tuner and I'm trying my best to learn to use it and I think the dynojet documentation is pitiful, which explains why I asked "dumb" questions here.
I agree with you 100%!!
There are a lot of posts that are just a waste of time reading also. But if you have the time, just about the first 1/3 will get you going along with the reference posted to you before. Look for posts from Jamie Long also. He is with Fuel Moto, & is VERY GOOD with the PV.
Where did you purchase the PV ? If it came from Fuel Moto it also came with a good base map to start the tuning process with. Also a life time support from Jamie & crew.
Don't be afraid to ask questions on here as someone will try & help ya. Hell, everyone on here has asked questions at one point or another !
Hope you enjoy the PV ! It is a great tool !
I need some PV help . To data log I click data log after selecting what i want to log . When I get data log after I connect the PV to my PC and display it in excel file is all in rows data and I can't interpret the data. Can someone send me a catalog file or PM me your email so I can forward u what I see on excel. I want to see at what rpm and conditions I am getting the front cylinder knocking so I can try to minimize the knocking. No local help from my PV. When I look at gauges, I get ratio knock hits front cylinder 22:1 to rear cylinder. I have a 107 build from hillside. I did get a dyno but my AFR was all set to 13.2 which I assume is running always in open loop and my gas mileage is half to stock 103'. I get avg 95 miles to a tank of gas... That's friggen nuts... I read I should still get avg 35 mpg ?. Any help would be great... I'm trying to figure this out. Ultra has been helping but seems real bust a times.
Don't know how to post a capture of the excel file
My dyno was done with SEPRT and I'm trying to convert back to PV. Jamie's canned map he sent me doesn't tune well with my build. Stalls and erratic idling.
UPDATE - got a dyno done with PV finally found a certified tuner. all good now finally. little loss in power but big gain in mileage...
Sloufoot, I appreciate your comments. To answer your question, my PV was a father's day gift. Not sure where purchased, but not fuel moto. Early on I sent an email to Jamie referencing HDforums and asking about a recommended starting point. I got a "canned" response back with a link to fuelmoto's support page. One of the required fields for getting support is a fuelmoto order number. I took it that he clearly had no interest in helping me.
I've contacted Dynojet support and I think I have a decent starting MAP. I told them that since I have a touring bike that I tour with, I wasn't interested in turning it into a bar hopping rocket. I just wanted better performance than the HD stage 1 flash gave me, with good fuel mileage. Roy at Dynojet told me that I would be better off autotuning with 14.6 in the cruising portion of the AFR table and 450 in the cruising portion of the closed loop bias. I'm currently making autotuning runs with this setup to see what it produces.
I may find that I work up a tune for daily commuting that provides more spirited performance. The cool thing about PV is that I can reflash the ECM with whatever tune I desire based on the expected style of riding.
As to the early part of this thread, it appeared to me that they were trying to figure it out themselves, and it appears that Power Vision has updated the firmware in the units along the way possibly making the old information obsolete. In other non HD forums where I've started a thread to help others, I'll edit my first post with links to posts within the thread that provide the most current and accurate information. Then you can just tell a noob to read the linked info in post #1 instead of expecting them to wade through 6000+ posts to glean the info.

The header (title) for each of the columns is listed on the first page. You can only get that information on the first page...it doesn't automatically repeat so you have to make a note of which columns have what specific data.
Quick question...closed throttle spark tables...do you use them? I noticed that the tune I got from fuelmoto has this feature disabled. With it enabled my idle advance is 25 degrees. With it disabled the idle advance would be 17. Would it not run cooler at idle and start easier at 17 vs 25?
Bumping this. I've read contradictory info on the internet about whether lowering the idle spark advance will make it run hotter or cooler. I'm just curious what, if any, difference I will see going from 25 down to 17 or 20, and not using the closed throttle spark tables. As I understand it, they exist as an added way to help get rid of decel pops, which I have successfully done with adding fuel.

Excel has some excellent charting capabilities. Copy the entire columns you want to graph into a new sheet, select all of the data, and insert a chart. There's also MegaLogViewer-HD that lets you group different signals into charts.
I'm on page 512 of this monster, let me jump ahead to ask a question.
My stage 2 '11 Limited is pretty dialed in. VE's are stable, very few minor knock events. I plan to play with edging the timing up a bit, but leaving on a trip, not messing with it until after. I did want to massage the AFR table a bit though. Jamie's tune has me with a fairly large cruise area @ 14.4 and pretty rich in the outlying areas (I don't have it in front of me). I like the idea of fattening up the cruise area to try for a little more power and cooling. I ride in the mountains and a typical day ranges from 6000 to 9000 ft. Most of my tuning was done @ 7500-8500 ft.
Finally the question....with this range of altitudes is running closed loop even more valuable? Would it be wise to maintain this larger closed loop area? Lastly, just to save me some digging, what's the richest AFR I can go in that area and still operate in C/L?
I'll go back to the dealer
I noticed there is no original tune , just the one the dealer loaded
Thanks guy

Kind of a update-
Saturday a week ago, I took the SG in for the 1000 milecheckup and told the service guys the problems I was having with Power Vision, they said no problem, well take care of it and have it done for ya in acouple of hours. Guess what? They had the same problems no communicationwith the bike. They call Dynajet on Tuesday, found the problem and were tore-install the operation system. Butthey sent the unit home with me. So, at lunch Wednesday I ran the unit back tothe dealership, stood around for 30 mins, still couldnt get it to work. I leftthe dealership, before I get back to work, I get a call-Its fixed.
Are you sure? - Yes
And its working? - Yes, we tried it on a couple of SG here at the shop
cause if its not, you guys will be make a service call tomy house
Thursday, I make that round the round trip back to thedealership, we connect it and it WORKS! They flashed the tune I had downloaded.
Yesterday, I mounted to Lucille and set up the gauges- Ithink Ill just watch it a while.
