I had my silenode braket brake off,it grounded on the motor and shorted the fuse out and after that no power at starter button. Its runs fine ,but have to jump start in 3nd gear, bit of a pain but works. Any things i can check? Thanks for your help. 1975 sportster.
Power runs ...
from the IGN circuit breaker
thru the RUN switch
to the start button
thru the start relay
to the solenoid
Power runs ...
from the battery
thru the long stud of the solenoid
to the short stud [when the solenoid activates]
to the starter motor
Can we presume that when you push the start button there is no response of any kind? [other than anger and frustration perhaps ]
You should be able to use a voltmeter or a test light to check for 12 volts at each point.
Perhaps 12 volts is getting to the start button but not thru it which would mean the thing behind the button needs to be repaired/replaced - so you have to test both going in and coming out of the switch.
The same logic applies to each other point - test for both 12 volts going in and 12 volts coming out.
Good luck with this - electrical testing can be tedious.
the button is a light duty and if the solenoid was floping around it might have burnt the little switch out - i would check the switch is passing the current to the starter soleniod

Given this circuit ...
Power runs ...
from the IGN circuit breaker
thru the RUN switch
to the start button
thru the start relay
to the solenoid
the solenoid shorting out could have affected both the start button and the start relay. Was the fuse that you mentioned actually the IGN circuit breaker? or a replacement for it? Where was that fuse in the wire system?
the brakers burn out when that sort if thing happens - check to see if you have voltage in and out of the brakers if not - take the wire off one side and check again confirming the feed to wires are all good - and the braker does not come back on again with the feed too wires off - if it does the braker come back on / you have a short now in the wiring -- jz
